Princess Caroline of Brunswick was married to the Prince Regent, later King George IV. Their marriage was a turbulent and unhappy one. It is perhaps a sign of this that while Princess Caroline popularised Southend-on-Sea, King George IV made Brighton in Sussex a fashionable bathing resort.

While Southend-on-Sea boasts a large statue of Queen Victoria pointing over the Thames Estuary, I could find no evidence that she actually visited the town.

Colchester is England's oldest recorded town and Basildon is a new town developed in the fifties and sixties to accommodate the overspill population from London. Anne's father, Thomas, was created Viscount Rochford in 1525 and after his death Anne's sister Mary inherited Rochford Hall. Rochford hall is now divided into apartments and the grounds are home to Rochford Hundred Golf Club.

Answer: The burial site of a 7th century Saxon prince

No human remains were found in the tomb. It was thought that the sandy composition of the soil hastened their complete decay. Finds in the tomb included jewellery, weapons and domestic artefacts. The contents of the tomb are on display at the Museum of London.

Prittlewell was also home to Prittlewell Priory. St. Mary's Church in Prittlewell was founded in Saxon times, although it was rebuilt completely between the 12th and 16th centuries.
