Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the US TV sitcom "Family Affair," Sebastian Cabot played what butler to the Davis family of New York City?

Answer: Mister French

When Bill Davis (Brian Keith) lost his brother, the brother's children -- 15-year-old Cissy and the six-year-old twins, Jody and Buffy -- became his wards. In "Family Affair" (1966-1971), Davis' gentleman's gentleman Giles French becomes responsible for the care of the children. Humour ensues.
2. In the British animated TV series "Count Duckula," who is the hunched 800-year-old vulture who serves the count as butler?

Answer: Igor

Unlike his predecessors, Count Duckula is a vegetarian with no interest in sucking blood. His manservant Igor is horrified and tries to convert him to "proper" vampirism. The series was spun off from "Danger Mouse" and ran four seasons (1988-1993).
3. Who is butler to Francisco Scaramanga in the James Bond adventure film "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974)?

Answer: Nick Nack

Played by Hervé Villechaize (who also played Tattoo to Ricardo Montalbán's Mr. Roarke on "Fantasy Island"), Nick Nack is the diminutive but deadly manservant and criminal accomplice of Francisco Scaramanga (Christopher Lee). Nick Nack was also Scaramanga's personal chef, having been trained at Le Cordon Bleu.
4. Who was the butler-cook-chauffeur on American TV's "Hart to Hart" (1979-1984)?

Answer: Max

At the beginning of every episode, the voice of Max (Lionel Strander) said "This is my boss - Jonathan Hart, a self-made millionaire. He's quite a guy. This is Mrs. H - she's gorgeous. What a terrific lady. By the way, my name is Max. I take care of them, which ain't easy, 'cause their hobby is murder."
5. In "Annie," who is Oliver Warbucks' butler at Warbucks Mansion?

Answer: Drake

Drake appears as a friend and supporter of Annie in the Broadway play. He was portrayed by I.M. Hobson in the 1982 movie, and by Douglas Fisher in the 1999 movie.
6. In the 1999 Canadian-American movie "Bicentennial Man," Robins Williams portrays which robot who serves as a household servant to a human family?

Answer: Andrew

Based on a novel by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg, this film explores serious issues of race, slavery, sexuality, love, prejudice and morality. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Makeup but lost to "Topsy Turvy."
7. In Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1886), who is the doctor's butler who seeks help after concluding that Hyde has murdered his employer?

Answer: Poole

In the Gothic novella, Poole serves Dr. Jekyll as butler for twenty years and knows his voice, his manner and even his footsteps. He becomes convinced that Hyde has killed Jekyll and taken his place so he contacts the attorney Gabriel John Utterson for help. The character is not much developed but, in terms of advancing the story, doesn't need to be.
8. In the several novels and stories set by P.G. Wodehouse in Blandings Castle, who is butler to Lord Emsworth?

Answer: Sebastian Beach

Lord Emsworth and his family are well served by Sebastian Beach, their long-time butler. Beach is getting on -- he has foot problems, joint problems, stomach problems and problems arising from the consumption of large quantities of port -- but never flags in his loyalty.
9. In the original "Pink Panther" movies, who was Inspector Clouseau's butler (and karate sparring partner)?

Answer: Cato (or Kato)

The shtick where Inspector Clouseau would come home and Cato would attack him (ostensibly to keep the inspector's fighting skills sharp) dates from "A Shot in the Dark" (1964). Cato was played in all of the original films by Burt Kwouk (1930-2016).
10. Who was Mr. Benny's valet, chauffeur and butler on "The Jack Benny" show on radio and television from 1937-1965?

Answer: Rochester

Eddie Anderson played Rochester van Jones on the Benny radio programme for its entire run. He was the first Black African American to have a regular role on a national radio programme. His wheezy voice became familiar to millions of Americans.
