Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 403: If you start at the foundation of the Statue of Liberty and progress to the top, you will have traversed 403 stairs. One of the most prevalent features of the Statue of Liberty is her crown. How many points are included in the Statue's crown?

Answer: Seven

There are seven rays in the crown which represent the seven seas and seven continents of the earth. Each crown point measures nearly nine feet (2.74 meters) in length and weigh in at approximately 150 pounds (68 kilograms). The Statue of Liberty was accepted by the USA by President Grover Cleveland during a ceremony held on October 28, 1886.

The Statue was crafted by French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and originally titled "La Liberte Eclairant le Monde" which translates to "Liberty Enlightening the World". Gustave Eiffel, designer of the famed Eiffel Tower, created the inner structure and framework of the structure.

The face of the Statue is based on Bartholdi's mother, Charlotte.
2. 5: There are five players who play on a standard basketball team. Most teams are comprised of a center, a power forward, a small forward, a shooting guard and a point guard. Each of these positions is represented by a corresponding number. For example, if Lebron James (who plays small forward) makes an awesome shot, the announcer may say something like "the ability of the four player to extend over his defender is how he was able to make that 12-footer". If Dwyane Wade (who is primarily a point guard) were to take the same shot, which number would the announcer use to describe his position?

Answer: One

Basketball positions are described by numbers, but that has nothing to do with the players uniform number, so don't get confused. Point guards are number one, shooting guards are two, small forwards are three, power forwards are four and centers are five.

As mentioned, this has nothing to do with the numbers on a players uniform. Lebron James has worn number six on his uniform for his tenure with both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Miami Heat, but his position number would remain four even if he were to change his uniform number.

When I first started watching basketball, I was oblivious to this and could never figure why they were referencing a player called "number five" when no one on that team was wearing that number. Now I know better, and hopefully so do you.
3. 21: The 21st Amendment to the United States Constitution ended prohibition by allowing the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. The 21st Amendment is the only one of the Constitution's 27 Amendments to repeal a prior Amendment. Which Amendment was repealed when the 21st Amendment was ratified?

Answer: 18th

In 1919, the 18th Amendment was passed which would ban the sale and use of alcoholic beverages in the United States. The law went into effect in January of 1920 and the American period of Prohibition had begun. In 1933, the 21st Amendment was proposed to repeal Prohibition and the law was passed later in the same year. Before signing the bill into law, President Franklin D. Roosevelt said "I think this would be a good time for a beer". I wonder how many times that famous phrase has been uttered since?
4. 6: Starting from number one and counting upwards, the first perfect number encountered is number six. A perfect number is any number whose divisors equal that number when added together. In the case of number six, its divisors are one, two and three. Add them up and you get six. Continue counting upwards and how far will you have to count until you reach the next perfect number?

Answer: 28

The divisors for the number 28 are 1, 2, 4, 7 and 14. Add them together, and voilą, you get 28.
The concept of perfect numbers have been around for quite a long time. The first four perfect numbers (6, 28, 496 and 8,128) were identified by the early Greeks as far back as 100 A.D. It wasn't until sometime in the middle 1400s when the fifth perfect number (33,550,336) was discovered. The sixth and seventh perfect numbers were discovered in 1588 by Italian mathematician Pietro Cataldi.
5. 1600: The US President and his family reside in The White House which is located at the address 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. Construction for The White House began in 1792 and the first President to live there was John Adams. How many rooms does The White House contain?

Answer: 132

The White House has 132 total rooms. There are 16 bedrooms, 3 different kitchens and a total of 35 bathrooms. There are six floors in The White House totaling approximately 55,000 square feet. The fence surrounding The White House encloses a total of 18 acres of land.
6. 28: A standard set of double six dominoes has 28 tiles. Each domino has spots ranging from zero to six on each end of the tile. If you were to add up all of the spots on each tile, what number would you come up with?

Answer: 168

A standard set of dominoes has 28 different tiles, each with a different arrangement of spots. The lowest domino is the double zero and the highest domino is the double six. Dominoes are typically referred to by the number of spots (or pips) on each side of the tile. For instance a tile with a two and a three on it would simply be called the two-three, or sometimes the deuce-trey.

There are several variation of dominoes with higher values than the double six. There are sets that go as high as the double 18, which uses 190 tiles with a combined spot total of 3,420.

There are also double 9, double 12 and double 15 varieties available.
7. 28: The standard US version of the game of "Monopoly" has 28 properties available for purchase. There are 22 colored streets, 4 rail road stations and 2 utilities. What is the combined dollar total of these properties in the standard US tournament version of the game?

Answer: $5,690

"Monopoly" is one of the most popular board games in the world. The game is played on a square board divided into forty squares, each representing either a property or some other game function. The properties are divided into eight colored groups, two utilities and four railroad stations. All properties are assigned a set value which can be purchased by a player when his token lands on that property.

The cheapest properties are Baltic and Mediterranean Avenues and they are valued at $60. The most expensive property is the $400 Boardwalk. If you were to purchase all of the properties in the game, you would spend $5,690 in the process.
8. 6: There are six categories in the original edition of the popular board game "Trivial Pursuit": entertainment, sports and recreation, literature, science and nature, geography and history. Players roll dice and move along a spoke-like board answering different questions based on the color of the space they land on. What is the total number of spaces on the original "Trivial Pursuit" game board?

Answer: 72

There are a total of 72 spaces on the game board. The outer circle is made up of 42 spaces while the interconnecting "spokes" are made up of 30 spaces. "Trivial Pursuit" involves players trying to assemble wedges into their game markers by answering trivia questions correctly.

The six categories above are represented by a different color: entertainment (pink), sports and recreation (orange), literature (brown), science and nature (green), geography (blue) and history (yellow).
9. 9: This question is for all the gamblers. Craps is an intimidating game for many based on the number of potential bets one can make. You have pass bets, come bets, horn bets, hard way bets and there is even a bet called a field bet. One popular field bet that is played is the "centerfield" bet. By betting on "centerfield" you are instructing the dealer to place a field bet on number nine. How many possible ways can you wager of a field bet in craps?

Answer: Seven

The field bet is placed on any of seven numbers, and depending on the casino, the bet can be placed directly by the player, or the dealer will place the bet for you. Number nine is called the "centerfield" bet, because it is literally in the center of the seven numbers in the field bet option (2, 3 and 4 on the left and 10, 11 and 12 to the right). Field bets are single roll bets which pay off if the next number rolled by the shooter is the number bet on in the field.
10. 11: The song "Jimmy" by hard rock band Tool has the number 11 repeated several times in the lyrics, presumably the age that "Jimmy" was when something traumatic happened to him. How many times does the song mention the number 11?

Answer: Eight

The song "Jimmy" is thought by many to be about Tool's lead singer, Maynard James Keenan, whose mother had a stroke and was paralyzed when he was 11 years old. As with most songs by Tool, the lyrics are often cryptic and could have several different interpretations, but this one seems to be pretty common.
The song "Jimmy" can be found on Tool's second album "Aenima". The 1996 album won Tool a Grammy award for Best Metal Performance.
