Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This superhero, whose real name is Oliver Queen, first appeared in issue number 73 of More Fun Comics in November of 1941. What's the name of this colorful character?

Answer: Green Arrow

To say the character of Green Arrow is similar to Batman would be an understatement. Does this sound familiar? In real life Queen is the billionaire owner of Queen Industries, which is located in his hometown of Star City. He fights crime alongside his trusty sidekick Speedy, gets around town in an Arrowcar, is summoned by an Arrow-Signal, and has a clownish looking arch enemy named Bull's Eye.

Despite the obvious similarities, Green Arrow has remained popular for more than 75 years, and is the subject of the popular CW Network series "Arrow", which began its fifth season in the fall of 2016.
2. What long running American television series premiered in 1963, and was co-hosted by zoologists Marlin Perkins and Jim Fowler?

Answer: Wild Kingdom

"Wild Kingdom" aired on NBC from 1963 until 1971, and then continued in syndication through 1988. Perkins served as the show's narrator, while Fowler would deal with the wild, and sometimes very dangerous, animals directly. Perkins stayed with the show until 1985, when he was diagnosed with cancer and had to retire; he died a year later. Fowler took over hosting duties in 1985, and continued until the end of the series run in 1988, after which he became a frequent guest, with animals in tow, on NBC's "The Today Show" and "The Tonight Show" starring Johnny Carson.
3. This Willie Nelson penned tune was a big crossover hit for Patsy Cline, reaching the top ten on both the Billboard Country and Hot 100 charts in 1961. Which song is it?

Answer: Crazy

Although "Crazy" just missed becoming Cline's second consecutive number one on the Billboard Country chart, stalling at number two, it was her best showing on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number nine in the fall of 1961. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked "Crazy" at number 85 on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time", and it remains one of Cline's most beloved songs to this day.
4. What stringed instrument is most commonly associated with musical greats Harry Reser, Earl Scruggs and Bela Fleck?

Answer: Banjo

Banjos, in their current form, are known to have existed as far back as the 17th century. They consist of either four, five or six strings, and are used in a number of different musical styles, including folk, country and bluegrass.

Harry Reser (January 17, 1896 - September 27, 1965) was widely considered the preeminent banjo player of the 1920s. Earl Scruggs (January 6, 1924 - March 28, 2012) was a premier banjo player for over 60 years. He is probably best known for his performance on the song "The Ballad of Jed Clampett", which was the theme for the '60s sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies". Bela Fleck (born July 10, 1958) is considered one of the world's best and most innovative banjo players.
5. Have you ever seen a tap dancing penguin? Well, this animated film from 2006 centers around the trials and tribulations of one such creature. What's the name of this movie?

Answer: Happy Feet

"Happy Feet" opened in the U.S. on November 17, 2006, and finished number one at the box office for two consecutive weeks. It went on to become the tenth highest grossing film of 2006, taking in $374,335,608 worldwide. The film also received its share of accolades, winning numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 2007 Academy Awards.
6. What very funny, long running TV show introduced us to future stars Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy and Will Ferrell?

Answer: Saturday Night Live

"Saturday Night Live" is a sketch comedy show that was created by Lorne Michaels and premiered on October 11, 1975. The original cast members were billed as "The Not Ready For Prime-Time Players", and included Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, Garrett Morris and Gilda Radner. Chase left the show after its first season and was replaced by Murray, who made his debut on January 15, 1977, and stayed with the show for three years, before his departure in 1980. Murphy joined the cast in 1980, leaving the show in 1984 to perform stand-up and pursue a movie career. Ferrell had a very successful seven year run, from 1995 until 2002, but also moved on to concentrate on his budding film career. "SNL" has been on the air for over 40 years, making it one of the longest running American TV shows of all time.

Answer: King Tut

Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh whose reign started in 1333 BC, at the age of nine or ten, and ended with his death in 1323 BC. The tomb was discovered by archaeologist Howard Carter in November of 1922, and not long after people began referring to Tutankhamun by the more familiar King Tut.

In popular culture, King Tut has been the subject of movies, songs and even video games. The artifacts that were discovered in the tomb are kept at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, but the findings have been featured in numerous international exhibitions.
8. What method of cooking has been around since the 1600s, and is most commonly associated with Jamaican cuisine?

Answer: Jerk

Jerk is a Jamaican cooking style that dates back to the 17th century. It involves marinating a cut of meat, usually chicken or pork, with a spice mixture called jerk seasoning, after which the meat is either smoked or grilled. Jerk stands are a common sight in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean, and the dish is also very popular in Jamaican themed restaurants around the world.
9. In the 1982 film "48 Hrs.", Eddie Murphy's character performs a slightly off-key rendition of this classic tune by The Police. What song is it?

Answer: Roxanne

"Roxanne" was written in 1977 by the band's bassist Sting, and was inspired by some prostitutes he observed while the group was in Paris for a club appearance. The song was released in the U.K. in 1978, as the first single from their debut album "Outlandos d' Amour", but it failed to chart.

It didn't fare much better upon its initial release in the U.S. in early 1979, but it eventually caught on and became the group's first charting single, peaking at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following the success of the song in the U.S., the group re-released "Roxanne" in the United Kingdom, and this time it was a hit, peaking at number 12 on the U.K. Singles Chart in 1979.
