Arnold Palmer won the 1961 British Open at the Royal Birkdale course, the 1962 Open at Troon. Jack Nicklaus won in 1966 at Muirfield and also in 1970 at St Andrews. Lee Trevino was the Open winner in 1971 (Royal Birkdale) and 1972 (Muirfield) while Sam Snead won the competition in 1946 at St Andrews.

Jeanine Deckers aka The Singing Nun was born in October 1933. Taking the name Sister Luc-Gabrielle she became a Dominican nun in the Fichermont Convent in her native Belgium.

Believed to be the portrait of Madame Lisa Giocondo, the wife of a rich Florentine, Da Vinci only parted with it on his deathbed - entrusting it to his friend and patron King Francois I of France, who hung it in the palace at Fontainbleu. Louis XIV took the painting when he moved the French court to Versailles. Later it adorned Napoleon's bedroom until it was moved to Paris on the opening of the Louvre almost 200 years ago.

After being stolen the 'Mona Lisa' was found a short distance away about two years later and restored to its place in the Louvre.
