Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How is a computer program which misleads users of its true intent, such as malware disguised as legitimate software, referred to?

Answer: Trojan

Most trojans allow a hacker backdoor access to sensitive information stored on the computer, such as banking details. They take their name from the Ancient Greek tale of how a harmless looking wooden horse actually allowed the Greeks to enter the city of Troy.
2. Vancouver Island, Bora Bora and the Galapagos Islands are all found in which ocean?

Answer: Pacific

The Pacific Ocean stretches from the Arctic Ocean in the north to Antarctica in the south, having borders with the Americas, Australia and Asia. It is both the largest and deepest ocean in the world.
3. In a calendar year, which is the second month to have 31 days?

Answer: March

March is named after Mars, the Roman God of war and is the first month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and therefore the first month of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. It is the month of Mothering Sunday, Easter, and, in Wales, St. David's Day.
4. In which song by The Kinks did Ray Davies describe meeting someone who "walked like a woman but talked like a man"?

Answer: Lola

On its release in 1970, "Lola" caused controversy immediately. It was banned in UK by BBC as the original lyrics contained a reference to Coca-Cola which was flagrant advertising. The band changed the offended lyric to "cherry cola" in order to get airplay.

In Australia airplay was banned due to the subject matter of a trans woman. How times have changed. Still the bans didn't harm the sales as it reached number six in Australia and number two in UK.
5. The historic city of Petra is the most popular tourist attraction in which country?

Answer: Jordan

Jordan is in West Asia on the banks of the river of the same name. On the country's western border with Palestine and Israel, is the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea, over 1400 feet below sea level. Petra dates back to 1st century CE and is believed to be the mausoleum of King Aretas IV.
6. Alfred Eisenstaedt's famous photograph of a U.S. Navy sailor kissing a woman in a white dress on Victory over Japan Day ("V-J Day") 1945, was first published in which magazine?

Answer: Life

"Life" magazine was published from 1883 to 1972 and then again from 1978 to 2000. It began life as an American version of UK's "Punch" magazine with light entertainment, social commentary and jokes being its mainstay. Eisenstaedt's famous photograph was a spontaneous, unstaged event that occurred in Times Square soon before the announcement of the end of the war with Japan. Because he was photographing rapidly changing events during the celebrations, he never got the names or the details of the people involved and as the photo doesn't clearly show their faces, the identity of the kissers remains unknown.
7. What was the first name of the 26th President of the United States, father to Kermit, Archibald and Quentin?

Answer: Theodore

Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was President from 1901 to 1909, becoming at age 42, the youngest person to become President of the United States, following the assassination of William McKinley. Apart from Kermit, Archibald and Quentin he also fathered Theodore III, Alice and Ethel.
8. What would one expect toxophilites to fire from arbalests?

Answer: Arrows

It's easier in plain English but not as much fun. A toxophilite is a lover of archery and an arbalest is a type of crossbow, so the answer is obvious. Bows and arrows were probably invented in Africa over 64,000 years ago.
9. What name links the country singer of "You're My Best Friend" with "Patch Adams" and tennis stars Serena and Venus?

Answer: Williams

Don Williams, Robin Williams, and Serena and Venus Williams. We could have had Robbie Williams, Hank Williams, Kenneth Williams, the list is quite long as Williams is the third most common surname in UK and USA. It means son of or descendant of William and dates back to 13th century.
10. What is the connection?

Answer: Formula One Teams

All are or have been F1 teams. Trojan competed in eight races in 1974, Pacific competed later in the 1994 and 1995 seasons. March competed under various guises, with various sponsors from 1970-89 and have counted Ronnie Peterson, Niki Lauda and Ivan Capelli among their drivers. Lola were one of the sport's horror stories, entering just one race back in 1997, failing to qualify and then pulling out of the sport while Jordan were a great success, operating from 1991 to 2005 and having the likes of Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill as drivers. Life were an Italian team who had Gary Brabham as a driver but they failed to qualify for a single race in their sole season.

Theodore from Hong Kong, competed 1977-83 and had talented drivers such as Patrick Tambay and Keke Rosberg. Arrows competed almost 400 races between 1978 and 2002 while Williams began racing in 1977 and have won many constructors and drivers championships.
