Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. EXO protein bars come in flavours such as Banana Bread, Blueberry Vanilla and PB & J, but what is their main ingredient?

Answer: Crickets

Although the eating of insects is relatively rare in North America and most of Europe, it is common in about 80% of the the world's countries with a variety of 1000 insects regularly eaten. Amusingly, EXO's advertising slogan is "All you can eat wings."
2. What occurred in France between 1789 and 1799?

Answer: The Revolution

The French Revolution was caused by the rise of the bourgeoisie who had aspirations of being on a par with the clergy and aristocracy, coupled with the new taxes implemented by Louis XVI to cover the cost of France's involvement in the American War of Independence, the deregulation of the grain market which led to high bread prices and a scarcity of food.

The revolution gave rise to the phrase by a princess of "Let them eat cake", which will it seems always be misattributed to Queen Marie Antoinette.
3. What name is given to female spirits in Irish mythology who herald the death of a family member, usually by wailing or shrieking?

Answer: Banshees

Although they are, for some reason, not as well known as fairies or leprechauns, banshees first appeared in ancient Gaelic legends alongside the other two. One modern writer who did employ them to great comedic effect was Terry Pratchett in the "Discworld" series, who mentioned a breeding population of wild banshees in the town of Lipwig and told of Mr. Ixolite, a member of Reg Shoe's Fresh Start Club in Ankh-Morpork, and supposedly the last surviving banshee on the Disc.
4. According to the Catholic Church, what did Mother Teresa perform two of, one in India and one in Brazil?

Answer: Miracles

The Catholic Church defines a miracle as "an extraordinary sensible effect wrought by God that surpasses the power and order of created nature" or an extraordinary and beneficial event that can not be explained by natural or scientific laws. One of Teresa's miracles involved the healing of an abdominal tumor in an Indian woman, although her husband is insistent that the miracle is a hoax and his wife was cured by doctors, while the second involved the curing of a bacterial brain infection in a Brazilian man after his wife prayed to Mother Teresa. Following the acceptance of these miracles by the Catholic Church, Teresa was canonised in 2016 and is now Saint Teresa of Calcutta.
5. What common name is given to the seeds of fruit such as apples and oranges?

Answer: Pips

Fruit seeds are generally called pips, while fruit stones are referred to as pits. Why? I don't know, but I do know that many of these seeds contain amygdalin, which our bodies turn into cyanide. Don't worry though, it would take about 150 apple pips to make a lethal amount. Cherry stones are in a different class though, as less than half a dozen of those could prove lethal.

In 2017, a UK man nearly died after eating just three, and then tried to blame the supermarket concerned for not putting a warning on the packaging!
6. Opening in May 1939, in Los Angeles, California, what is the name of the largest railroad passenger terminal in the Western United States?

Answer: Union Station

When it was built, the station replaced Le Grande which had been operating since 1893 and Central Station which had been in use since 1914 and by 2017, Union Station was serving over 100,000 passengers per day, with people able to travel from Los Angeles as far afield as Seattle (1377 miles), New Orleans (1995 miles) and Chicago (2265 miles).
7. Who led the Lakota native American tribe at The Battle of Little Big Horn, when General Custer was defeated?

Answer: Crazy Horse

After seeing action at The Fetterman massacre (1866) and the Wagon Box Fight (1867), Crazy Horse led a force of 1500 native warriors at the Battle of the Rosebud (1876) which delayed Brigadier General George Crook's forces from joining the 7th Cavalry of Custer, leading to Custer's Last Stand and his eventual death on June 25th 1876. Crazy Horse died in custody in 1877 and was honored by the U.S. Postal Service in 1982 when a postage stamp in the Great Americans series bore his image.
8. In which 1967 movie did Elvis Presley play a singer called Guy Lambert, getting involved with bumbling jewel thieves in London?

Answer: Double Trouble

The movie was intended to allow Presley to compete with the comedic films of The Beatles such as "Help" and "Hard Days Night", but it never matched the success of those movies. This was Presley's 24th movie and co-starred Annette Day in her only film appearance and Yvonne Romain, best known for horror movies "Circus Of Horrors" (1960) and "Corridors Of Blood" (1958) which starred Boris Karloff.
9. Popular in Central Mexico since Aztec times, escamoles have a buttery, nutty taste. They are in fact the larvae of which insect?

Answer: Ants

Ants really are pretty cool creatures. The bullet ant of South America is said to have the most painful sting in the world, akin to being hit by, yep you guessed it, a bullet, and while we all know that ants are super strong, the trap jaw ant is also a record breaker in the predatory appendages field, having been recorded closing its jaws at 230 kilometres per hour (143 mph).
10. What is the common bond?

Answer: Backing Bands

Yes backing bands. Would you eat crickets? "That'll Be The Day" replied Buddy Holly when I asked him. "Only if they've been out in the "Purple Rain"", replied Prince, who was clearly thinking about a Revolution. Siouxie asked me to "Kiss Them For Me", the very thought of which had me wailing like a Banshee. I even warned Smokey Robinson that if I did, he would see "The Tracks Of My Tears" and it would require Miracles to make them disappear. Needing assistance, I called Gladys Knight from a payphone to see whether she would help me with "The Nitty Gritty" but the Pips sounded before she could answer, so Alison Krauss agreed to come. I met her at Union Station and she said, ""Baby, Now That I've Found You", we need Neil Young, but he can't make it.

He has a "Heart Of Gold" and he's waiting for the vet to look at his Crazy Horse." We tried Stevie Ray Vaughan but he had Double Trouble, kinda caught in the "Crossfire" of helping me or Mr. Young, so I got Adam to help. He's no "Goody Two Shoes", so I think he can handle any insect, whether it's crickets or Ants.
