Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Blossom, Buttercup...

Answer: Bubbles

"The Powerpuff Girls" (1998-2005) was an animated show about superpowered sisters Blossom, Buttercup and Bubbles who were created in a lab by Professor Utonium. They can fly, have heat vision, are super strong and know karate. Blossom, the redhead is the leader; Bubbles is the blonde cutie; Buttercup is the tough brunette.

They save Townsville from evil villains like Mojo Jojo and the Gangreen Gang.
2. Athos, Porthos...

Answer: Aramis

"The Three Musketeers" is the historical novel by Alexander Dumas, published in 1844. It is from this novel that we get the famous motto "All for one and one for all". The Musketeers of the Guard are the elite guardsmen of the King. In Paris, the king's finest swordsmen, Athos, Porthos and Aramis, meet up with D'Artagnan who convinces them to continue their fight against Cardinal Richelieu who is attempting to overthrow the monarchy.

The novel is set in the years from 1625 through 1628.
3. Pavarotti, Carreras...

Answer: Domingo

The Three Tenors were an operatic singing trio consisting of Italian tenor Luciano Pavorotti and Spaniards Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo. The height of their fame came in the 1990s and early 2000s. Their first collaboration was in Rome on
July 7, 1990 at the Baths of Caracalla. Their recording was so popular it led to their second televised performance at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California in 1994. Their final concert together was on September 28, 2003 in Columbus, Ohio.
4. Wynken, Blynken...

Answer: Nod

"Wynken, Blynken and Nod" is a children's poem written by American poet Eugene Field, and published in 1889. It was originally called "Dutch Lullaby" and begins: "Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night,/Sailed off in a wooden shoe -/Sailed on a river of crystal light,/Into a sea of dew".

The poem is a lullaby to help children sleep, while the watercolor pictures in the book are visually stunning and help capture the imagination. The story is a tale of three fishermen in a wooden shoe who catch stars in their silver and gold nets.
5. Tinker, Evers...

Answer: Chance

Shortstop Joe Tinker, second baseman Johnny Evers and first baseman Frank Chance were the famous double play combination for the professional baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. They played from 1902 to 1912. The trio was immortalized in the 1910 baseball poem by Franklin Pierce Adams called "Baseball's Sad Lexicon". "These are the saddest of possible words: Tinker to Evers to Chance/Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,/Tinker and Evers and Chance."
6. Barry, Robin...

Answer: Maurice

Barry, Robin and Maurice formed the musical group the Bee Gees in 1959. Their first chart success came in Australia with "Spicks and Specks". In the late 1960s, they teamed up with producer Robert Stigwood to create the sound for the movie "Saturday Night Fever" (1977).

They are responsible for hits which include "Stayin' Alive", "How Deep Is Your Love" and "More Than a Woman". The Bee Gees helped usher in the Disco Era, and were one of the most successful groups of all time.
7. Beyonce, Michelle...

Answer: Kelly

Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland became the group called Destiny's Child, formed in Houston, Texas in 1997. Did you know that they started out as Girls Tyme in 1990 with Knowles, Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LaToya Luckett? Destiny's Child's second best-selling album was "The Writing's on the Wall" which included the hit singles "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name". Roberson and Luckett were replaced by Williams and Farrah Franklin, but the latter left the group in 2000, leaving the trio above.

The threesome performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 3, 2013.
8. Jack, Chrissy...

Answer: Janet

"Come and knock on our door" and you'll wind up watching the sitcom "Three's Company" (1976-1984). The comedy depicted three roommates, Jack Tripper, Chrissy Snow and Janet Wood, who lived together in Santa Monica, California. The gimmick was that Jack had to pretend to be gay in order to continue the arrangement. The show was so successful that it was spun off into "Three's a Crowd" (1984-1985), which was, essentially, a continuation of the Jack Tripper character (John Ritter) finding love.
9. Kim, Khloe...

Answer: Kourtney

Spawn of Kris Kardashian (later Jenner), Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian are the offspring of Kris and attorney Robert Kardashian. They are celebritants known for being known, rather than having any discernible talents. If you follow the tabloids at all, you will have a good idea of the lifestyle they enjoy, including their television show, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", and all kinds of products they endorse and sell.
10. Bella, Edward...

Answer: Jacob

From Stephenie Meyer comes the book series "Twilight", about a bunch of young vampires. The first book was published on September 6, 2006, when we first met Edward Cullen, Jacob Black and Bella Swan. The successful series of novels was turned into a very successful film franchise starting in 2008, making stars out of Kristen Stewart (Bella), Taylor Lautner (Jacob) and Robert Pattinson (Edward).
11. Carnie, Wendy...

Answer: Chynna

Once upon a time, there was a singing group called the Mamas and the Papas; among the group members were John and Michelle Phillips. Before them, there was a little band called the Beach Boys with, among others, Brian Wilson. The offspring of these singers includes Carnie and Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips.

These three formed the logically named Wilson Phillips in Los Angeles, California in 1989. The following year, their self-titled debut album had three songs which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, including the Hot 100 Single of the Year, "Hold On".
12. Harry, Ron...

Answer: Hermione

For all you J.K. Rowling fans, I had to add the Harry Potter trio, i.e., Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, three students at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The first novel, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's (Sorcerer's) Stone", released on June 26, 1997, almost single-handedly reviving the practice of reading books.

The books were turned into block-buster movies, with Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron, and Emma Watson as Muggle-born witch, Hermione.
13. Cochran, Barnes...

Answer: Hayes

Anyone remember the old TV show called "The Mod Squad" (1968-1973)? It was a crime drama featuring three young counter-culture "hippy" cops in Southern California, who pursue adult criminals trying to rip off the young. This youth squad, all of whom had been previously in trouble with the law, consisted of "one white, one black, one blonde".

The trio was Pete Cochran (Michael Cole, what ever happened to him?), Julie Barnes (Peggy Lipton, mother of Rashida Jones), and Linc Hayes, played by Clarence Williams III.
14. Yarrow, Stookey...

Answer: Travers

You may be more familiar with the folk-singing trio of Yarrow, Stookey and Travers by their first names, i.e., Peter, Paul and Mary. The group formed in 1961 in New York City, at the beginning of the popularity of folk songs. They were influenced by others of the genre, including Woody Guthrie ("This Land Is Your Land"), Pete Seeger and the Weavers.

As popular as Peter, Paul and Mary were, their only number one single (and last top 40 hit) was "Leaving on a Jet Plane", written by John Denver, and released in December 1969.

The were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.
15. Blanche, Dorothy...

Answer: Rose

Our final trio is Blanche Devereaux, Dorothy Zbornak and Rose Nylund from the hit show "Golden Girls" (1985-1992). The sitcom is about three women older women (and Dorothy's mother) who live together in Blanche's house at 6151 Richmond Street in Miami, Florida.

It features the daily lives of women who have been widowed or divorced, and how they cope with life on the other side of fifty (or sixty). Between Rose's St. Olaf stories, Blanche's social life and Dorothy's cynicism, not to mention Sofia's brutal honesty, this show was hysterical and, possibly, the first to delve into the daily experiences of the 'senior set'.
