1. Former Taoisigh of Ireland, Charles Haughey and Enda Kenny, were both born in which Irish county?

Answer: Mayo

County Mayo with its beautiful rugged coastline is home to some of the most breath taking views in Ireland. It is also the home ground of many famous people apart from Haughey and Kenny, with founder of the Irish National Land League Michael Davitt, and founder of the Argentine Navy Admiral William Brown, both born there. Political figures William O'Dwyer, who was the 100th mayor of New York City and Mary Robinson, the first female President of Ireland were also born within the county.
2. There is a well known Irish blessing which starts with Go n-éirí an bóthar leat. What does this translate to?

Answer: May the road rise to meet you

The blessing in full is;
Go n-éirí an bóthar leat (May the road rise to meet you)
Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl (May the wind be always at your back)

3. Although the company manufactures several types of salad dressing and sauces, Hellmanns is best known for which product?

Answer: Mayonnaise

Richard Hellmann opened a delicatessen in New York City in 1905 and wasted no time in making and selling his brand of mayonnaise. The popularity of his condiment meant that by 1913, he needed a factory to keep pace with the demand and the company has never looked back since.
The company also make a range of salad dressings as well as ketchup and sauces for kebabs, burgers and hot dogs, but it is still their creamy mayonnaise that they are best known for.
4. Lord Flashheart in "Blackadder", Alan B'Stard in "The New Statesman", Vladamir in a 1991 production of Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" and the voice of the Andrex puppy for several years. Which actor was this?

Answer: Rik Mayall

It is almost impossible to think of alternative UK comedy and not mention Rik Mayall. Mayall starred in irreverent shows such as "The Comic Strip Presents" (1983-2012), "A Kick Up The Eighties" (1981) and of course "The Young Ones" (1982-84). He also had a serious side too though, appearing in stage shows such as Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors" in 1978, Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in 1991 and Nikolai Gogol's "The Government Inspector" in 1985. Mayall also did voice work in several productions, both serious and comedic including Mr Toad in "The Wind in the Willows" (1995), Kehaar in "Watership Down" (1999) and all seven of the Bad Seven Dwarves (Horny, Grungy, Funky, Scummy, Spotty, Filth, and Mental) in "Snow White: The Sequel" (2007).
5. In 1971 Rod Stewart released the single, "Reason To Believe". What was the B side of this single?

Answer: Maggie May

"Reason To Believe" (1971) may be listed as the A side of this single, but record buyers were purchasing it for the B side which was far more popular.
In fact on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, the single was listed as "Reason To Believe" as it made its way up to number 62 on the chart, before then being switched with "Maggie May" (1971) listed as the A side as it stormed all the way to number one.
6. What was the name of the ship, that in 1620 transported the first Pilgrims from Plymouth to the New World?

Answer: Mayflower

In 1620, after ten weeks at sea, the Mayflower reached Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where its passengers, known as The Pilgrims, established the Plymouth Colony.
Amazingly, out of the 102 passengers aboard the ship, only one died en route, although once the group reached their "new Promised Land" that number greatly increased as in the winter of 1620-21, forty five Pilgrims succumbed to the harsh conditions, dying from a combination of scurvy and lack of shelter, as they strove to survive the harsh conditions.

Aside from his musical works with Queen he also released several solo works and collaborated with artists such as Dennis Wilson, Norah Jones, Tangerine Dream and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

Angelou performed her poem, "On the Pulse of Morning", for President Clinton on his inauguration; she was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2011.
9. Which company opened their first match making factory in London in 1843, added factories in Leeds, Glasgow and Liverpool through the years, the last of which, in Liverpool, closed in 1994?

Answer: Bryant and May

Bryant and May was founded by William Bryant and Francis May in 1843 and due to their religious beliefs as Quakers, manufactured only safety matches, rather than the more widely used lucifer matches.
By 1880 however, they entered the lucifer market, producing them at their factory which employed 5,000 people and soon became a major player in the match industry, enabling them to take over or merge with other well known manufacturers such as the Diamond Match Company (makers of Swan Vesta matches) and S.J. Moreland and Sons who made the England's Glory brand.
When the Liverpool factory of Bryant and May closed in 1994, it ended an industry as this was the only UK match making plant remaining in the country.
