Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where is Braddock, Texas?

Answer: Fictional city on the TV series "Dallas"

It is true, Braddock, Texas was the fictional suburb of Dallas, Texas chosen by the television screen writers as "home town" for the Ewing family ranch. Throughout the series many of the characters mentioned Braddock and, Miss Ellie's official web site lists her birthplace as Braddock, Texas.
2. What is Ewing Oil?

Answer: It is a fictional oil company, from the TV series "Dallas"

Ah, Ewing Oil. The thorny crown that seems to always bring them down. Though not founded entirely by TV series family patriarch, Jock Ewing, he is given much of the credit for the foundation of it. Now the rest of the family (and, the show's brilliant staff writers) are given credit for just where it went from there.

The scheming and betrayals, the changes at the helm, and the situations that lead to those wonderful cliffhangers - all for control of Ewing Oil. It kept us returning week after week - for more than ten years.
3. This Texas boy played Little League the same summer his family's good friend and future Major League Baseball Commissioner, Fay Vincent, worked with his family's oil company in Midland, Texas. Who was he?

Answer: George W. Bush

America's former President, George W. Bush has always been an avid baseball fan. Also, true, his family was well acquainted with commissioner Vincent even before George W. owned a share of the Texas Rangers. The Rangers make their home in Arlington, Texas which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
4. What is South Fork Ranch?

Answer: An actual working ranch in Parker, Texas. It was used in the TV series "Dallas".

What is now South Fork was not used on "Dallas" until its second season and was then owned by a family who called the ranch Duncan Acres. Duncan Acres has since been sold to a real estate developer and the name legally changed to South Fork. It has continued not only as a working ranch but as a tourist attraction (about twenty miles north of downtown Dallas, Texas) complete with walking/riding tours, info guides, gift shops, photo ops and areas that can be booked for various events.
5. Where is Parkland Memorial Hospital?

Answer: Dallas, Texas

In Dallas, Texas the hospital is Parkland Health and Hospital System and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Today a world-renowned institution in health care; most famously in the news in the early 1960s because it was to Parkland Hospital where then President John Kennedy was taken for treatment after his assassination.
6. Bobby Ewing was proud to be former football star and alum of SMU. Where is SMU's main campus?

Answer: Dallas, Texas

Southern Methodist University is a private liberal arts school located in University Park, Texas, an inner city suburb of Dallas. Bobby Ewing joins (real life) alums from SMU who include: Luchi Gonzalez, Payne Stewart, Forrest Gregg and Aaron Spelling - to mention a few.
7. When Sue Ellen Shepard won the title of Miss Texas. Was her win on the TV series "Dallas" or did it form part of the Miss America pageant?

Answer: On the TV series "Dallas"

According to the TV series, Sue Ellen met J.R. while he was a judge for the Miss Texas pageant. She was a beauty queen and campus star of University of Texas (Austin) at the time. The attraction was instant and mutual but like all great soap opera loves the deeper the emotion the more likely there is to be trouble. For years their relationship brought trouble that provided wonderful, lascivious entertainment.
8. What is the annual event that is called the Oil Baron's Ball?

Answer: It is a fictional event featured on the TV series "Dallas"

The Oil Baron's Ball was mentioned and/or featured during many of the seasons of "Dallas". It gave the actors an opportunity to model some fabulous designer clothes - and demonstrate that even nastiest behavior could be done in expensive finery. Each time we viewers actually saw the Ball there was ALWAYS at least one brawl, right?
9. One scene from the TV series "Dallas" has the character J.R. Ewing talking with the latest of his long string of extra-marital lovers, Mandy Winger, with a back shot of a very famous Dallas, Texas venue. Where are they?

Answer: In a private box at Texas Stadium

Ah, J. R. Ewing, of course, he could book a private box at Texas Stadium for a lunch rendezvous with his latest fling - not a problem. This footage was shot on location and was great because it showed some up-close-and-personal glimpses of the inside of the Texas Stadium at the time when the Dallas Cowboys called it home. Brief glimpses though, but precious to the fans of the team. Of course, now even Texas Stadium has now been imploded as the Cowboys have moved on to (Arlington, Texas) Cowboys Stadium.
10. The name Sam Culver has been associated with the politics of Texas but was he a real human being or a character from the television series, "Dallas"?

Answer: Only on the TV series, "Dallas"

When Donna Culver, widow of Sam Culver, joined the series she truly brought the aspect of politics to the oil and money of the "Dallas" scenario. Of course, all the innuendos that politics brings with it only made the series that much more interesting. One of the first successes of Donna's character was to author a best seller titled, "Sam Culver: The Political Years".

Her aspirations only grew from that.
