The dialling codes 0207 (inner London) and 0208 (outer London) were introduced as part of the "Big Number Change" in the late 1990s. Despite the allocation of numbers being geographically split at launch, it was only the 020 part that remained specific to a certain area - Greater London. Subsequent to launch 0208 numbers were given to inner London areas as well as outer London.
