Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It's now theorized that the sun had an evil twin in its early life that spun off and went its separate way. What do scientists call this theoretical twin?

Answer: Nemesis

The astronomers suggest that this early double may have been responsible for the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs. Pure speculation, of course.
2. Sometimes one twin will kill the other. Which of these twins were a real-life perpetrator and victim?

Answer: Robert and Christopher Cerqua (UK)

Robert stabbed his brother in the chest with a kitchen knife on New Year's Eve 2013, and then left him on the floor in a drunken rage. When he was arrested for the murder, he seemed genuinely surprised that Christopher had died. The other names are fictional.
3. There's an evil twin in computer technology. What is dubbed an evil twin?

Answer: a second wi-fi device with the same name used to spy on on-line activities

Similar to phishing scams, this seeks to gather information about the victim without him/her realizing it. Naturally, this device would have to be very close to the original to fool the computer or the user.
4. Often used as a TV and movie trope, what are some of the most common ways to tell the evil twin from the good one?

Answer: beards, mustaches, scars, brunet(te) hair instead of blond(e), black or dark clothing

While all of the above have been used at one time or another (Sabrina, Samantha's evil twin in "Bewitched", had brunette hair AND a mole), the list given covers most of the usual "tells". In old westerns, the black hat is always a dead giveaway. In "Cat Ballou", the only difference between Lee Marvin's good and evil twins was a metal nose.
5. Which of these blondes killed her twin sister by driving off a cliff in Maui in 2016?

Answer: Alexandria Duval

I tried to make it a little easier by using serial killers' last names for the fakes, Peter Sutcliffe, Ted Bundy, and John Wayne Gacy. Witnesses saw the car driven by Alexandria accelerate suddenly and then swerve sharply over the cliff. Twin sister Anastasia was pronounced dead on the scene and Alexandria was charged with her murder.
6. Real life identical twins, evil or not, can be the same or mirror images of each other, often with one being left-handed. How often does the mirror image situation occur?

Answer: 25% of the time

Mirror image twins account for one quarter of all identical twin births. It's very rare, but in some cases, the "left" twin will have all his/her internal organs reversed as well as external appearances.
7. It's much more common for both twins to be evil than just one or the other. Which of these twins ran an organized crime ring in London in the 1950s and 60s?

Answer: Ronnie and Reggie Kray

The Kray brothers were notorious gangsters at the time, but their ownership of a nightclub gave them access to politicians and celebrities, making them semi-famous themselves, until they were finally arrested for the last time in 1968 and convicted of murder in 1969. Ronnie Kray was bisexual, and his involvement with two male politicians from opposite political parties seems to have inoculated the Krays against being taken down sooner.

The other names are made up.
8. What are twins called when they are born at the same time but are not identical?

Answer: fraternal

I had to throw in at least one easy question for you. Getting pregnant with a second child while already pregnant is called superfetation and is different from getting pregnant with two children at the same time (fraternal twins). Superfecundation is getting pregnant with two children at the same (general) time but by two different sex acts, sometimes leading to fraternal twins with different fathers.
9. Which of these murderous evil twins weren't actually twins?

Answer: Erik and Lyle Menendez

The Menendez brothers were separated by a couple of years, despite their apparent similarity in looks. The women's names in the other answers were all twins who killed, their names coming from their husbands rather than their fathers.
10. At least one thing about twins is always different, different enough for police to be able to identify which is which. What is it?

Answer: fingerprints

Fingerprints, while partially determined by DNA so that siblings and parent/child relationships are identifiable, are also partially determined in the womb, by the motion of the amniotic fluid, so even though identical twins have identical DNA, they have different fingerprints.

This won't tell you which twin is evil, if one is, but if you've got a fingerprint at the crime scene, you'll know which twin was there. No comment on the other wrong answers.
