Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is NOT a quote from General George Patton?

Answer: A general is just as good or just as bad as the troops under his command make him.

This is a quote from another General - Douglas MacArthur, who was famous for telling reporters in Adelaide, Australia, "I came through and I shall return". This was said after leaving the Philippines.
2. What was the middle name of the General who met his defeat at the Battle of Little Bighorn?

Answer: Armstrong

General George Armstrong Custer was the commander in charge of 210 men. Rather than wait for reinforcements, he ordered the men to attack a large Indian village containing thousands of Lakota, Arapaho and Cheyenne warriors. The Battle of Little Bighorn has become known as Custer's Last Stand.
3. What rank of General was Charles de Gaulle?

Answer: Brigadier

Charles de Gaulle earned the rank of Brigadier General during World War II. He went on to become the President of France from 1959 to 1969.
4. Which "General" attracted the world's attention from the 4th to the 13th of May 1926?

Answer: Strike

In May, 1926 British miners walked out of work for miners' rights. In a move of solidarity, other industry workers joined them, creating the first ever general strike in Britain.
5. What "General" is the name of the last round in the television show "QI"?

Answer: Ignorance

QI stands for Quite Interesting, and points are given for interesting information, rather then correct answers - a bit like Fun Trivia. In 2012, the show had entered its tenth season.
6. What is the symbol for the "General" viewing of motion pictures in the US?

Answer: G

In the US, G stands General, PG for Parental Guidance, R for Restricted and A for Adult. The chart is designated to classify films with regard to suitability for audiences in terms of the films' content.
7. Which "General" made its first appearance on April Fool's day, 1963?

Answer: Hospital

"General Hospital" is a television show that was originally set in an unnamed fictional city, and was finally given the name of Port Charles, New York in 1977.

General Havelock is the name of a hotel in Adelaide.
8. What is the last name of General "Stormin' Norman"?

Answer: Schwarzkopf

I can imagine Arnie Schwarzenegger playing the part of "Stormin' Norman". Norman Jorgensen is a writer of children's books. Lastly, Norman Doige is a medical doctor responsible for the book "The Brain That Changes Itself".
9. Which "General" is a United States aerospace company?

Answer: Dynamics

General Dynamics has operated around the world. It has served government and commercial customers on six continents and in more than 40 countries.
10. In Sir Terry Pratchett's "Discworld", which General has both an item of clothing and a food named after him?

Answer: Froc

General Froc has both the frock coat and beef froc named after him, which compares with the Roundworld's Wellington, with Wellington Boots and Beef Wellington. Blous is still only a Lieutenant, but one day hopes that the Discworld will be eating a blouse (Liver and Onions?). General Tacticus' autobiography includes a chapter called "What to Do When One Army Occupies a Well-Fortified Fortress on Superior Ground and the Other Does Not"; it begins with the sentence, "Endeavour to be the one inside". Cumabund is still only a Colonel.
