From its Latin root, via Old French, the word 'general' entered Middle English in which its meaning was much the same as today's. Its primary uses are as an adjective describing something widespread, and as a noun to indicate an army officer of high rank.
2. The 'General Lee' is famous as the chosen mode of transport of the Duke boys in and around Hazzard County in the TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard", but what type of car is it?

Answer: Dodge Charger

Although the 'General Lee' was supposed to be the same car throughout, during the seven years that "The Dukes of Hazzard" was produced it is estimated that approximately 250-330 1968 and 1969 model Dodge Chargers were used, with an average of one car used up per episode.

At the beginning of February 1974, Prime Minister Edward Heath called a general election for the 28th February. Upon the final counting of votes, the Labour Party, led by Harold Wilson, became the largest party in the House of Commons, but without an overall majority.

As a consequence, although Wilson succeeded Heath as Prime Minister, a further election was called in October. Following this, the Labour Party gained a majority of three seats, with Wilson returned as Prime Minster.

To give the illusion of variety, the Generals played under a number of identities over the years, most famously as the New Jersey Reds.

Following Harrison's service in command of a brigade in the XX Corps, in January 1865 President Lincoln brevetted Harrison to the rank of Brigadier-General, before he was discharged in June 1865.
