Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Andrews Sisters lit up the airwaves with such hits as "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Rum and Coca-Cola". They were also featured in a number of Hollywood films. Which of the following lovely ladies was NOT one of the Andrews Sisters?

Answer: Julie

The blond sister was Patty, the youngest. Maxine, the brunette, was the middle sister. Red-haired LaVerne was the oldest.
2. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego got on the wrong side of the king, and got thrown into a furnace for their trouble. Where can you read their story?

Answer: The Bible.

King Nebuchadnezzar ordered the upstart Hebrews tossed into the furnace for refusing to bow down and worship a statue of him. When he peeked in to watch the barbeque, he saw four men walking around, unscathed, in the flames. Shadrach, Meshac, and Abednego won their lives and freedom, not to mention a zealous convert to their religion.

The Bible doesn't give a positive ID of the fourth man, who does not emerge from the furnace to be questioned, but the Chrisians take him to be Jesus, putting in an early appearance among the faithful.
3. Where are you most likely to see Manny, Moe, and Jack?

Answer: At an auto parts store.

Manny, Moe, and Jack are the Pep Boys -- mascots for the auto parts store.
4. In the Beatle's song, "When I'm 64", the singer anticipates one day dandling grandchildren on his knee. Which is not one of the names he imagines for his three grandchildren?

Answer: Susie

Paul McCartney wrote the tune when he was about 15. He wrote the words to it later, in honor of his father's 64th birthday. (Thanks to Songfacts.com for this piece of interesting trivia!)
5. No quiz on trios would be complete without mentioning Groucho, Harpo, and Chico. But early in their film career, there were actually four Marx Brothers. What is the name of the Marx Brother that decided Hollywood wasn't for him, after appearing in five movies?

Answer: Zeppo

Herbert "Zeppo" Marx was the youngest, and played the straight man. He was the only one without a gimmick, like Groucho's eyebrows and mustache, Harpo's wig and mutism, or Chico's ill-fitting clothes and bad Italian accent. But playing a handsome straight man didn't suit the naturally comical Zeppo, so he decided to move on.

Another brother, Gummo, was part of the original musical act but didn't perform in films.
6. Although there were lots of "Three Stooges" movies, a number of men circulated in and out of the roles. Which three of all the Stooges were actually brothers?

Answer: Moe, Curly, and Shemp

There were a total of six Stooges: Brothers Moe, Curly, and Shemp Howard; Larry Fine; Joe Besser; and Curly Joe DeRita.
7. In a long-running US sitcom, widow Kate Bradley ran the Shady Rest Hotel in Hooterville with her three daughters: Billie Jo, Betty Jo, and Bobbie Jo. The sisters' shared middle name was in honor of Uncle Joe, played by Edgar Buchanan. What show featured this lovely trio?

Answer: Petticoat Junction

Hooterville was also the setting for "Green Acres", and the original homeplace of "The Beverly Hillbillies", to which they'd occasionally return for visits. There was a lot of crossover by the characters among the three shows. The dog on Petticoat Junction later starred as Benji in the original "Benji" movie.
8. There's something odd about Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Trilogy". Well, there's a lot about it that's odd, such as Marvin the Paranoid Android, Zaphod Beeblebrox's two heads and three arms, and the fact that the Earth had been commissioned by mice. But aside from the strange content, what is overwhelmingly odd about the "Hitchiker's Trilogy"?

Answer: There are four... no wait, five... books in this particular trilogy.

How do you fit five books into a trilogy, which is by definition comprised of three books? Well, you have to be a genius like Douglas Adams to pull it off. The five are: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe", "Life, the Universe, and Everything", "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish", and "Mostly Harmless". Adams has given us a modern "Gulliver's Travels", bringing his wacky universe to radio, books, TV, video games, and in 2005, the silver screen. Clearly he was a frood who really knew where his towel was!
9. Let's not forget "The Three Bs of Music"! Name one of these three classical composers.

Answer: Brahms

Each of these three - Brahms, Bach, and Beethoven - was a master of his style, writing music that endures around the world and through the centuries. Richard Carpenter (who with his sister, Karen, formed The Carpenters) said that the three Bs of pop music were the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Burt Bacharach, but only time will tell if they become as enduring as the original Three Bs!
10. Not everything that comes in threes is necessarily a good thing. "Leaflets three, let it be!" is the rhyme to warn you away from what?

Answer: Poison ivy.

Poison ivy leaflets can be dull or glossy, and can have different leaf edges. Poison oak also has three leaflets, as do wild strawberries! So if you're berrying, you'd better be careful!
