Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Holy Bible is divided into the 'Old' and 'New' Testaments. Within the King James Bible, can you tell how many books there are in the New Testament?

Answer: 27

The New Testament focuses on the life of Jesus Christ and of his early followers. It has a total of 27 books which are as follows: The four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, followed by the Acts of the Apostles, the twenty-one epistles, and finally Revelation.
2. The Decathlon is made up of ten disciplines including both track and field events. Do you know the track events and the correct order that they are run in?

Answer: 100m, 400m, 110m hurdles and 1500m

The modern decathlon is based on an athlete doing ten events which are split across two days as follows:

Day 1
100 metres
Long Jump
Shot Put
High Jump
400 metres

Day 2
110 metre hurdles
Discus
Pole Vault
Javelin
1500 metres

For me the Decathlon is the ultimate test for athletes in demonstrating their core strengths as well as their endurance and technical abilities.
3. I was amazed to discover that there are apparently 189 islands in the Mediterranean both big and small. Which of these Mediterranean islands is the largest?

Answer: Sicily

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea situated on the 'toe of Italy'. It has an area of 25,711 sq km and a population of around 5 million people.
4. The US President would normally serve a term of four years. However, which president served the shortest time in office?

Answer: William H Harrison

By far the shortest time that an individual has served as US president was the unfortunate William Henry Harrison, who died a mere 31 days into his presidency, of typhoid fever on April 4, 1841.
5. During World War 2, the British manufactured over 27,500 tanks. However, which of the 18 tank designs had the largest production run? The answer may well surprise many!

Answer: Valentine Infantry Tank

Considering that the Vickers Valentine was generally perceived as a relatively poor design it is surprising that it became the most produced British Tank during World War 2 with a staggering 8,275 being manufactured across all of its 11 marks plus variants. It alone accounted for nearly 25% of all British tank production.

The others mentioned include the better known (and dare I say more respected designs) include the Churchill (5,768), the Crusader (5,300) and Cromwell (4,016).
6. All American states have a motto, but which is the only US state with a motto in Spanish?

Answer: Montana

The US state of Montana's motto is "Oro y plata," which simply means "Gold and silver."
7. Many English Football Clubs are associated with songs, but what is Liverpool's signature tune that is commonly heard across the terraces at Anfield?

Answer: You'll Never Walk Alone

Liverpool's anthem is probably amongst the better known songs being sung at football matches. The other songs included are West Ham ("I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"), Manchester City ("Blue Moon") and the definitively more obscure song from Derby County ("Steve Bloomer's Watchin'").
8. The city of New York is made up of five boroughs. Which one of these boroughs is separated from rest of New York by the "Narrows"?

Answer: Staten Island

As its name suggests, the 'narrows' is a tidal waterway that separates Staten Island from the borough of Brooklyn.
9. When Captain James Cook first made landfall during his voyage of discovery, what did he originally record under the name "Stingray Harbour"?

Answer: Botany Bay

When Captain Cook first made landfall on the 29th April 1770, he noted in his journal that they had landed at a place he named as 'Stingray Bay'. This name was given apparently due to the large number of stingrays that they had caught in the bay.

Later on, it was renamed 'Botanist's Harbour' and then eventually 'Botany Bay' to celebrate the role that the botanists aboard HMS Endeavour played during their expedition and the flora and fauna they discovered.
10. The first book to be written and published in CS Lewis's 'Narnia Chronicles' was 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe', but can you tell me in which year it was first published?

Answer: 1950

'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' was the first book to be published of the Narnia series of chronicles. The final book, titled 'The Last Battle' was published in 1956.
