1. Which actor featured in all three of the great ensemble movies of the 1960s, namely "The Magnificent Seven", "The Great Escape" and "The Dirty Dozen"?

Answer: Charles Bronson

My favourite Movie is "The Magnificent Seven", which features Charles Bronson as one of the seven. The movie is an English language remake of the Japanese film, "Seven Samurai". Robert Vaughan appeared only in "The Magnificent Seven".

I love "The Magnificent Seven" and everything about it including the soundtrack. I have a 6' x 4' framed print of the seven.
Because I liked "The Magnificent Seven" so much I bought the VHS then the DVD of "Seven Samurai" which I also now love.

3. One of my favorite television shows aired from 1968-1975, and featured the lives of two police officers. Which show was it?

Answer: Adam-12

The series, created by Jack Webb, featured the lives of Pete Malloy (Martin Milner), a tough veteran, and Jim Reed (Kent McCord), a rookie.

The cruiser assigned to them had the call sign, "1-Adam-12". The voice of the female dispatcher was provided by Shaaron Claridge (correct spelling of first name), a real life dispatcher for the L.A.P.D.

The series ran from September 21, 1968-May 20, 1975.

One of the very best episodes is titled "Elegy Of A Pig", narrated by Martin Millner, about Pete Malloy's close friend who is killed in the line of duty. At the end, Officer Pete Malloy leaves us with these true words:

"And if there must be a final postscript to all of this, then let it here be noted: the coffin will soon be buried. He will be forgotten except by a very few. Out of sight, out of mind. And strangely enough, in view of current custom, no one will raise a placard to denounce his senseless murder. No one will raise indignant cries of protest at the shedding of his blood. No one will march in anger because of his death."

4. Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, received his bachelor of science in aeronautical engineering from what Midwestern University?

Answer: Purdue University

My favorite Purdue alumni is Neil Armstrong, from Ohio, started in 1947 at Purdue University in West Lafayette Indiana, on a Navy scholarship. He got called up to the Korean War, then returned after service to graduate in 1955. After leaving NASA, Neil Armstrong was a professor at University of Cincinnati.

6. One of my favourite things to eat would certainly be this, if it wasn't a fictional food. Which one of these is it?

Answer: Lopadotemachose

One of my favourite things is enjoying a meal with friends and the food with the long name in the question is of Greek origin, (actually the proper name is Lopadotemachoselachogaleokranioleipsanodrimhypotrimmatosilphiokarabom). It originates from Aristophanes' 391 B.C. comedy "Assemblywomen". It contains a whole variety of fish, chicken and other meats combined as a fricassee in a piquant sauce. I would so enjoy eating it but it is a fictional food dish.

Fackle was much loved by my grandma, it is a dish of mutton and cabbage.
Hopkos is a drink made with hops, water and ginger.
Moggy is a delicious cake made with treacle or golden syrup and often served with custard.

8. I love to learn about something new so I decided to research opera, something about which I know nothing! Which classical composer wrote the most operas?

Answer: Wenzel Muller

Wenzel Muller was born September 26, 1767 in Monrovia and died August 3, 1835 in Baden bei Wien, Austria. He worked at the Theater in der Leopoldstadt, moved to the German Theater in Prague, then back to the Theater in der Leopoldstadt. During his second tenure in Leopoldstadt the theater became one of the most important music venues in the Vienna area. Muller wrote over 160 operas during his lifetime. He was married twice and all five of his children became opera singers.

Alessandro Scarlatti was born May 2, 1660 in Sicily and died October 22, 1725 in Naples. He worked primarily in Naples and Rome and wrote 65 operas. Two sons, Domenico and Pietro Filippo, became composers. Scarlatti was the creator of the Italian overture in three movements.

Antonio Vivaldi was born March 4, 1678 in Venice and died July 28, 1741 in Vienna. He began studying for the priesthood at age 15 and was ordained at age 25. Due to his red hair he became known as the red priest. Much of his music was written for female voices while he worked at Ospedale Della Pieta, a home for orphaned and abandoned children. He composed 40 operas.

Niccolo Piccinni was born January 16, 1728 in Bari Italy and died May 7, 1800 in Paris France. He was known for composing comic operas, including "La Cecchina (Ossia la Buona Figliuola)", which played for two years in Rome. Queen Marie Antoinette personally invited him to move to Paris but after the French Revolution he returned to Naples where he was held under house arrest for four years because the authorities felt he was a revolutionist. He composed 124 operas.

9. Growing up, some of my favourite TV shows were westerns. One of them was "Wagon Train" starring Ward Bond as the wagon master, Seth Adams. Which great character actor took over as wagon master after Ward Bond died?

Answer: John McIntire

Ward Bond had played wagon master Major Seth Adams for three seasons, but died in the middle of season four. He had a heart attack in a hotel in Dallas, Texas, and was pronounced dead in hospital on November 5, 1960 aged 57.

John McIntire took over the role of wagon master as Christopher Hale in season 4 to 8. It was very strange that no explanation was ever given about the change in any episodes of the show. Robert Fuller, Claude Akins and Neville Brand all appeared in episodes of the show along with Robert Horton as scout Flint McCullough and Frank McGrath as cook Charlie Wooster.

10. I love to see children playing outside! During my childhood my favorite game was jump or skipping rope, in all its various forms. From what country are the first written records of jump rope?

Answer: China

The first written records of jump rope come from China in the early 1600s. It tells of children playing a game during Chinese New Year called Hundred Rope or Hundred Threads, but there are oral histories and pictures from many centuries earlier in such places as China, Egypt and Australia. It is believed that commerce with Asia brought the playful practice to Europe in the 1600s. The Dutch from the Netherlands brought the game to North America and introduced the variation using two ropes simultaneously, still commonly known as Double Dutch. The Chinese jump rope is a long elastic and requires at least three people to use and uses the ankles instead of the hands.
