Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. UK Soccer: Who was the first British soccer player to be transferred between two English clubs for the sum of £1,000,000?

Answer: Trevor Francis

Although this is regarded as the first million pound transfer, the actual fee paid by Nottingham Forest to Birmingham City, was £999,999 - £1 short of the million mark. With taxes the total fee exceeded £1.1m.
2. Which legendary film star was the first to have his/her legs insured for the sum of $1,000,000?

Answer: Betty Grable

Lloyds of London underwrote the insurance policy which in the event of a payout would have provided the employing studio with a $1,000,000 windfall. Luckily for them, the policy was never claimed against.
3. Which Canadian band had a huge success with the song "If I had $1,000,000"?

Answer: Barenaked Ladies

Written in 1992 this became one of BNL's best known tracks and a must sing track at all of their concerts. Surprisingly it was never released as a true single and first appeared on the album "Gordon". The song was written by Steven Page and Ed Robinson.
4. Who was the first contestant to win the £1,000,000 prize in the UK version of "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?"?

Answer: Judith Keppel

Chris Tarrant was the quiz host at the time of the first £1 million win. John Carpenter won the US version and Charles Ingram was disqualified for cheating after winning the prize. Judith won her prize in November 2000.
5. Elton John released an altered version of 'Candle in the Wind', following the death of Princess Diana in 1997. To the nearest million, how many copies of this version were sold worldwide?

Answer: 35 million

This single sold 5 million copies in the UK alone with another 11 million added by the US. Elton John has vowed never to sing this version again unless requested by Princes William and Harry.
6. According to accepted theory, approximately how many miles are there in one light year?

Answer: 6 million million

According to the International Astronomical Union, a light-year is the distance that light travels in a vacuum in one Julian year. Therefore the mathematicians amongst you will be able to calculate the right answer fairly quickly.
7. If you were to express the number one million to two decimal places, how many zeroes would you have to write down?

Answer: Eight (8)

Oops, who forgot the two zeroes for the decimal places.
8. If your computer hard drive has capacity for one Gigabyte of data, how many bytes will it hold?

Answer: 1,000 million

Although this answer may not be accepted by computer purists, it is generally accepted by everyone else that there are 1 million bytes in a megabyte and 1000 megabytes in a gigabyte. A Gazillion does not yet exist in the real world.
9. During 1989 a maritime disaster resulted in 10.8 million US Gallons (40 million litres) of crude oil being released into Prince William Sound, Alaska. Which ship was responsible for this spillage?

Answer: Exxon Valdez

The Torrey Canyon spilled her oil off the British coast in 1967. The other two ships mentioned are (were) passenger liners rather than oil tankers and as such would not carry that much oil. The Exxon Valdez incident is generally regarded as one of North America's worst environmental disasters due to the horrendous affect on wildlife in the area.

The resultant oil slick ended up covering 1,300 square miles of ocean.
10. If you have completed 1,000,000 questions in the Fun Trivia Monster Quiz it is likely that you have been a quiz fan for many a year, but approximately how many years?

Answer: 183 years

At a rate of 7 quizzes a week with 15 questions in each quiz. By reaching level 27 you can actually reduce the number of years to 160.
