1. As mentioned in the title of a UK number one record, how many lions are displayed on the England international football shirt?

Answer: three

"Three lions on a shirt
Jules Rimet still gleaming.
Thirty years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming."

Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds released "Three Lions" in 1996, the year that the European Championships were held in England. The thirty years of hurt in the lyrics represented the lack of silverware for the national side at that time. The song was soon adopted as the official anthem of the England team. The song can still be heard today, sang on the terraces, by devoted fans watching their favourite team.

The history of the three lions date back to the 12th century, when a standard incorporating three gold lions was carried into battle to motivate its troops. The first lion represents Henry 1st. To celebrate his marriage, a second lion was added. The third lion was in honour of Eleanor of Aquitaine, whose family crest was a lion.
