Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Approximately how many creatures born in the sea live to maturity?

Answer: 1 in 1,000

Many types of fish reproduce externally with hundreds of eggs and do not nurture their young, whereas cetacea such as whales and dolphins generally reproduce internally and care for their young. However, on average, the amount is about 1 in 1000.
2. Which of the following musical instruments did Leonardo da Vinci make as a gift for the Duke of Milan?

Answer: Lyre

The lyre was shaped like a horse's head. Leonardo was known to be a talented musician and played the lyre as well as other instruments. He is also believed to have composed much music but sadly none of it has survived. Da Vinci was, and still is, recognized for his great works of art, such as the Mona Lisa, and for his incredible mind.
3. Who created "The Far Side", a collection of captioned cartoons?

Answer: Gary Larson

Compilations of these cartoons include The Far Side, Beyond the Far Side, In Search of The Far Side, and a number of Far Side galleries.
4. Teeth decay faster in a living person than in a dead person?

Answer: True

This is because when a person is deceased, they no longer consume food, and thus do not expose their teeth to food acids, which are the cause of tooth decay.
5. What is the longest non-professional word in the English language?

Answer: floccinaucinihilipilification

"Floccinaucinihilipilification" is the act of 'estimating as worthless'. It has 29 letters. "Antidisestablishmentarianism" is to 'disapprove of the act terminating an established state of affairs'. It only has 28 letters. "Ethyl S-2 diisopropylaminoethylmethyl phosphonothiolate" is of course more than one word and is a professional term.

It is the name of the most powerful nerve gas ever created, as of 2000, and is otherwise known as "VX" (I prefer its other name). It has 52 letters. Finally, "pneumonoultramicrosopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" is also a professional term; it is an inflammatory lung disease caused by the inhalation of fine silica dust.

It has 44 letters.
6. What is an anencephalous creature?

Answer: A creature with no brain

A muticous creature is a creature with no defensive structures, and an anencephalous creature has no brain.
7. What is Donald Duck's address?

Answer: 1313 Webfoot Walk, Duckburg, Calisota

Donald Duck is a Disney cartoon character. He is a duck. I found all of this information in "World's Best Trivia," by Oliver Roydhouse. Another interesting fact is that Donald Duck was originally called "Donald Drake".
8. In 1822, Mary Ann Mantell of Sussex, England, was the first person in history to accomplish a certain feat. However, her husband, Dr Gideon Mantell, took the credit for it. What did she do?

Answer: She was the first to discover a dinosaur fossil, and identify it as part of a large reptile

The discovery was the first to be identified as a large reptile, other findings had been labelled as either giant men or dragons. Dr Mantell identified the teeth his wife found as part of an Iguanadon. Later he incorrectly identified a body part as a horn; it was really a toe.
9. What are Miss Piggy's measurements?

Answer: 27-20-32

Miss Piggy is a muppet. She is a pig. I got this information from "World's Best Trivia," by Oliver Roydhouse.
10. How heavy is the Earth?

Answer: 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg

This is six septillion kilograms -- 6 times 10^24! This is a rough estimate based on studies of the Earth's composition.
