Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My cat is missing! I know he is close by because there has been an unmitigated disaster in the neighborhood. What has my cat caused?

Answer: Catastrophe

A popular TV series in the UK, catastrophe is more commonly attributed to disasters, both natural and man made. Historic catastrophic events include: the demise of the dinosaurs, the Bubonic Plague (Black Death), the explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle in 1986 and the coal mine cave-in in Chile in 2010. (Question contributed by Duchess716 who was trained in disaster response by her cat, Alex)
2. My cat is missing again. But hush! Do I hear some rustling of leaves underneath the hazel tree? Maybe the cat is playing with some dropped nuts. How to you call the flower of the hazel?

Answer: Catkin

Catalpa is a beautiful flowering plant, found in warm and suptropical places. Cattail is a tall reed, close to the water. Catsear looks like dandelion, a pretty yellow flower.

Catkins can be seen even before the leaves have reappeared after the winter. Well, at least if it is the hazel in my garden. They are yellow/golden and dangle down. They use the wind to pollinate. In fact, they look like cattails. Scruffy cat tails!

Hurray, now the cat appeared...
And disappeared again. Over the fence, following a squirrel. Where might it be now?

(Heidi66, whose late cat Leo loved to sit under the hazel and jumped the fence at that place for a stroll in the neighborhood)
3. I am missing a Wild Cat! However, I'm not looking for any random wild cat, but rather for a roller coaster of that exact name. Which theme park - even though it has a coaster named for a feline - did *NEVER* have a coaster named "Wild Cat" or "Wildcat"?

Answer: Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay

Hersheypark operated a wooden coaster by the name of "Wild Cat" until 1945 and later resurrected the name in 1996 for an early GCI wooden coaster. Frontier City's "Wildcat" was built in its current location in 1990, but the coaster dates from 1968, having previously operated in Fairyland Park, Kansas City. Cedar Point had two different coasters named "Wildcat"; the later one was retired in 2012.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay features a very feline coaster in "Cheetah Hunt", a triple-launch Intamin coaster whose maximum speed matches that of a cheetah, but the only ride using the word "wild" at that park is "The Wild Surge", a launch tower ride.

(This question was retracked for a smooth ride by WesleyCrusher)
4. My cat has pounced onto a Broadway stage and into an Andrew Lloyd Weber production. "Cats" is a popular musical show and has been released on film twice since it's stage debut in 1981. Who wrote the original collection of poems this musical is based on?

Answer: T.S. Eliot

'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats' was published in 1939 as stories for his godchildren. Andrew Lloyd Weber set the poems to music to create the musical. As of 2019, it was the fourth longest running show on Broadway and the sixth longest running West End show.

(Question by Duchess716 and Cutie Pie, a Jellicle cat)
5. This could have happened 1887... "My name is Julie Manet, and just a moment ago the little cat sat on my lap. Now it is gone! Maybe the painting was a bit too much stress for le petit chat? Perhaps the painter knows her hiding place. For a second I forgot his name, he painted "Luncheon of the Boating Party" some years ago." Can you help her? Who painted "Child with Cat"?

Answer: Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir, (1841 - 1919) painted "Julie Manet also known as Child with Cat" in 1887. The picture can be enjoyed in the Musée d'Orsay, Paris.

Little Julie was born in 1878 and therefore around nine years old in 1887. And even if I suggested it in the question, she must have known Renoir very well. Her mother Berthe Morisot was a well known painter herself. Her father was Eugène Manet, brother of the painter Édouard Manet. In fact, there are quite a lot of paintings of Julie as a child, and she followed her mother's footsteps when grown up.

But it is the picture of her in a white dress with a cat on the lap that I like the most.

And I also enjoy the paintings of her uncle Éduard Manet, her mother Berthe, or the paintings of German artist Paul Klee. Not to forget the beautiful white cat on a yellow cushion, as portrayed by Franz Marc (also German).

(Wondering who brushed all the cat hair from the pretty white dress, Heidi66 is ready for a catnap.)
6. My cat has pounced into a movie from the 1970s. The movie, set in the 1800s Wild West, is based on a novel with the same title. It stars Burt Reynolds and Sarah Miles. Which movie has my cat wandered into?

Answer: The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing

"The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing" was released in 1973. It is about a train robbery, a band of thieves and a woman on the run. Cat Dancing, the leader's wife, has been murdered and does not appear in the film.

(Submitted by Duchess716 and my cat dancing cat, Thumper)
7. My CAT has gone missing (as well as all caps) again, although at more than ten metric tons of steel and almost four meters in height it should be easy to locate. Where would I have the best chance to find such a CAT, whose name has been shortened from an entirely different, crawly, animal?

Answer: A construction site

Caterpillar, Inc. has been one of the world's major manufacturers for construction equipment ever since its inception in 1925. In the 21st century, they often just used "CAT" along with a yellow triangle instead of the full name for their logo, which can't only be found on their machines but also on branded clothing aimed at the DYI market.

(This question was erected by a CAT named WesleyCrusher)
8. Oh, this is so embarrassing, I have been trying to remember the name of a certain Cat and my memory fails me. Who was the big Hollywood name actress who played the role of Cat Ballou in the movie "Cat Ballou?" I seem to remember she had beautiful blue eyes like my Siamese cat Lipa.

Answer: Jane Fonda

"Cat Ballou" is a 1965 western film directed by Elliot Silverstein and starring Jane Fonda and Lee Marvin. The film is about Catherine "Cat" Ballou who becomes the leader of a gang of outlaws in order to protect her ranch and avenge her father's death. Lee Marvin plays the useless, drunk gunman who helps Cat in her plight. For his role as Kid Shelleen and Tim Strawn, Lee Marvin received an Academy Award for Best Actor.

(Question barely put together by Cat tiye who plays FunTrivia in a desperate effort to slow down nature)
9. I must be owned by the world's most adventurous cat, she never misses an opportunity to explore exotic places and travel to the far corners of the earth. This time someone told me she's been spotted on a catamaran. Where exactly is she?

Answer: At sea

A catamaran is a double-hulled sea vessel which has been used in the Indian ocean and the Pacific islands for thousands of years. The traditional catamaran is constructed with two parallel hulls joined together with a transverse plank on which plank sits the mast for the sail. Catamarans are used for transportation (the powered ones), recreation and racing.

(Question constructed by Cat tiye who loves sea travels)
10. While most of us search for our missing felines, one certain Mr Johnson seems to do everything to get rid of his. At least there is a song about it. Do you know it?

Answer: The Cat Came Back

"The Cat Came Back" was published in 1893 and deals with the different ways Mr Johnson used to get rid of his cat. Including dynamite. Everyone could have told that man, that if a cat has made its home, it will do everything to come back!

"But the cat came back, he couldn't stay no long-er,
Yes the cat came back de very next day,
the cat came back-thought she were a goner,
But the cat came back for it wouldn't stay away."

(Being thankful that none of her fellow cat people would treat there cat with dynamite, Heidi66 strolls off, looking for Rudi and Fluffy)
