Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The football (soccer) team I support has the same initials for the first two words in their title (e.g. aafc/bbfc). They also won the FA Cup in 1987, but which team is it?

Answer: Coventry City

Coventry City won the F.A. Cup in 1987 with a 3-2 thriller, but just two years later were knocked out by non-league Sutton United. The Sky Blues were founded in 1883, and play there home games at the new Ricoh Arena.
2. My favourite word in the English language it "is the property of an open system, especially living organisms, to regulate its internal environment to maintain a stable, constant condition, by means of multiple dynamic equilibrium adjustments, controlled by interrelated regulation mechanisms." What is it?

Answer: Homeostasis

I like Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious more, but it isn't in the English language. I discovered the word 'Homeostasis' in a biology lesson.
3. The age my hamster was when he died is the same as the number of electrons in the outer shell of Calcium.

Answer: 2

The number of electrons in the outer shell of an element is the same as its group number. My hamster died of old age at the age of two, just after his hair went grey and fell out.
4. In the national language of the country I live, "coch" means red. Where do I live?

Answer: Wales

I live in Wales, since I moved from England in 2000. In Welsh "Ddraig Coch" means "red dragon". The capital of Wales is Cardiff, home to the Millenium Stadium. Wales contains one of the longest place names in the world:
"llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch"
5. My hero scored an own goal in the 1987 FA Cup final, to give the trophy to the team I support, but who was it?

Answer: Garry Mabbutt

Gary Mabbutt (who now has an MBE) accidentally scored an own goal for Spurs (with his knee) in the FA Cup final 1987 to give the cup to Coventry City (3-2). There is now a Coventry City Magazine called GMK (Gary Mabbutt's Knee).
6. The English county I support in cricket is known as Shakespeare's county. Where is it?

Answer: Warwickshire

My dad always supported Warwickshire, so that is who I was brought up supporting. It is called Shakespeare's County because he was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire. Shakespeare's County Raceway is also in Warwickshire.
7. My favourite American sport is played on a pitch measuring 91.4m by 48.8m, what is it?

Answer: American Football

American Football is great, but it does drag on a bit. I also love baseball and ice hockey, but not as much. Outside of the United States and Canada, the sport is usually referred to as American football (or sometimes as gridiron or gridiron football) to differentiate it from other football games like Soccer (Association Football), Gaelic Rules Football, Aussie Rules football, etc.
8. The number shirt I wear when playing football (soccer) for the mighty Carno, is equal to a gross divided by a dozen. What number do I wear?

Answer: 12

I am number twelve because it is cool. Carno is a place in mid-Wales, I play for the under-15s as a striker, we are obviously the best despite sitting at the bottom of the Mid-Wales league!
9. My favourite animal is also known as the "Fire Fox", What is it?

Answer: Red Panda

Red Pandas are so cool, i have seen several in zoos, I love them, and want one as a pet! The Red Panda is a mostly herbivorous mammal, slightly larger than a domestic cat (55 cm long). The Red Panda has semi-retractile claws and, like the Giant Panda, has a "false thumb" which is really an extension of the wrist bone. Thick fur on the soles of the feet offers protection from cold and hides scent glands.
10. My father shares his name with the lead singer from the band 'Coldplay', an English band from London. What is the lead singer's name?

Answer: Chris Martin

Chris Martin is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and pianist of the popular rock band Coldplay. Formed in 1998, Coldplay were exposed to the world with the release of their single, "Yellow", in the year 2000, followed by their debut album, "Parachutes", which was much acclaimed.
