1. In the counting system Roman numerals, what number does D represent?

Answer: 500

Roman numerals were used by the ancient Romans. In it, letters of the Latin alphabet were used to represent different values (X represented 10 and D 500, for example). They are read by adding the values of each number together (XI is 11, for example, because X is ten and I represents one and 10 + 1 is 11) it may also be read by subtracting the numerals as well (for example IX is 9 as 10 - 1 is 9). 50 is L and C is 100.
