1. In 1952, a Cleveland disc jockey coined the term "rock and roll". Who was it?

3. Which native Clevelander was the first African American woman to be nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award?

Answer: Dorothy Dandridge

She was nominated, but did not win, for the title role in 1954's "Carmen Jones". As her career slid downhill her intake of alcohol and prescription drugs increased. On the afternoon of September 8, 1965 her manager found her dead in her apartment. The autopsy showed that she had died of an overdose of Tofranil, the antidepressant that she was taking. It is unknown if it was deliberate or accidental.

Hattie McDaniel was the first African American woman to actually win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress (as opposed to Best Actress), which was for her role in "Gone with the Wind".
4. Portions of the following movies were filmed in Cleveland except?

Although the movie was set in Cleveland, no portions were filmed there. Other movies which had portions filmed in Cleveland include "The Deer Hunter", "Spiderman 3", "Happy Gilmore", and of course "Major League".
5. On June 22, 1969, the Cuyahoga River became so polluted that it caught fire. How long was it on fire?

Rangers first baseman Mike Hargrove (who later would manage the Indians) was pelted with hot dogs and nearly hit with an empty gallon bottle of Thunderbird.

Nicknamed "Dennis the Menace", he fired the Chief of Police on the 6 o'clock news. He was largely held responsible for the city defaulting on loans, the first American city to do so since the Great Depression.

She sank 13 enemy vessels before becoming a training boat, and then ultimately a museum. It is docked on Lake Erie with parts still in original condition.
