Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "In The Mood" was a signature song of what bandleader of the 1930s and 40s?

Answer: Glenn Miller

The melody of "In The Mood" was based on an older tune called "Tar Paper Stomp", composed by Wingy Monone who recorded it in 1930. Miller was not the first to record "In The Mood". It had previously been recorded by Edgar Hayes and His Orchestra as well as Artie Shaw. Glenn Miller bought the song in 1939.

Although Miller is believed to have perished in a plane crash in 1944 an orchestra bearing his name has continued to perform.
2. In one of the "Little Rascals" short films, which character sang "I'm In The Mood for Love" on a radio talent contest?

Answer: Alfalfa

The portrayal of Alfalfa Switzer as a crooner was one of the most iconic threads of the "Little Rascals" shorts. He sang "I'm In The Mood for Love" in an episode entitled "The Pinch Singer" in which he filled in for Darla Hood who was delayed getting to a radio talent contest.

The song was composed by Jimmy McHugh with lyrics by Dorothy Fields. Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer tragically died from a gunshot wound in 1959 in what was purported to be a dispute over money.

Answer: The 1970s

Mood rings were created in 1975 by Josh Reynolds and Maris Ambats, two inventors from New York. They bonded liquid crystals with quartz and set them into rings. The chemicals caused the face of the ring to change colors based on the body temperature of the finger the ring was worn on. They come with a chart that explains the mood each color indicates.
5. Where did the band The Moody Blues originate from?

Answer: Birmingham, England

Formed in 1964 in a suburb of Birmingham England, The Moody Blues' first single to appear on the Billboard chart was a cover of an R&B song by Bessie Blanks called "Go Now" which they performed on "The Ed Sullivan Show". The song peaked at number ten in the US.

After a few less successful singles they formed their own record label following the expiration of their contract with Decca Records. Their music took on a more classically-infused progressive style. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
