Answer: Deep Purple

Deep Purple are among the grandfathers of modern rock music, having formed in 1968 and along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath make up the so called "holy trinity of hard rock and metal bands". Gillan first joined the band in 1969, replacing original vocalist Rod Evans before leaving in 1973.

He rejoined for a five year period in 1984 before leaving in 1989 then coming back in 1992. Blackmore was there at the start in 1968 but left in 1975. He rejoined in 1984 but left again in 1993.

Answer: Violet Carson

Ena Sharples was an archetypal northern battleaxe on "Coronation Street", superbly played by Carson. Her verbal battles with Elsie Tanner, played by Pat Phoenix are fondly remembered by a generation of "Corrie" fans. Carson was also a regular on religious show "Stars On Sunday" and sadly died on Boxing Day 1983, aged 85.

L'Escargot, which is French for snail was anything but slow in the 1975 National, or in the 1973 and 1974 events at which he finished third and second respectively. He also won the prestigious Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1970 and 1971. Rag Trade beat Red Rum to win the 1976 Grand National and Charles Dickens finished third behind Red Rum and L'Escargot in the 1974 running. Mary Hinge was a flat racing horse, rather than a steeplechaser who had a brief career, winning two of five races in 1994.

Deep Blue was developed by IBM and after Kasparov beat it, was heavily upgraded (commonly referred to as Deeper Blue) and re-matched with Kasparov in 1997, winning by a score of 3.5-2.5 and becoming the first computer system to defeat a reigning world champion. Kasparov was undisputed world chess champion from 1985-1993 and in 1985 had played against thirty-two different chess computers in Hamburg, winning all games.
