John Galarza of Apollo Beach, Florida, allegedly sent the spider to his unsuspecting girlfriend. My source was unable to verify whether the object of Mr. Galarza's arachnid affection received the tarantula.
2. Who did a French yachtsman call for help in 2003 after his craft capsized 100 miles (160 km) off the US coast?

Answer: his mother

Emmanuel Coindre's mother, Sylviane, received his distress call via his satellite phone. She alerted the French Coast Guard who contacted
their American counterpart.
No doubt pleased to see his rescuers, Emmanuel, at last report, was out on a fishing boat searching for his yacht.

Answer: Finland

British singers Danni Gadsby and Uche Eke sang their way to success in the Finnish town of Heinola.

Daredevil Felix took ten minutes to descend 9000 metres above Dover to hills overlooking Calais. The 1.8 metre wide wing was constructed of the same carbon composite material used in Formula 1 racing cars.

An Islamic Sharia court made the ruling. Not surprisingly, women's groups were strong in their disapproval.

Monty's owner, Raymond Slater of Manchester, received an application form for the card, addressed to Monty. The Royal Bank of Scotland made the boo-boo. They're sending Mr Slater a hamper by way of apology. Hope they remember to pack a big bone for Monty!

Answer: sauna sitting

This quiz just got steamy! At least that's how Timo must have felt after 16 minutes and 15 seconds in a sauna with the temperature set at 110 degrees Celsius.
The ladies' prize went to Natalia Tryfanava of Belarus who lasted exactly 13 minutes.
9. A costume belonging to this famous super-hero was sold at auction in July 2003 for almost US $200,000?

Answer: Superman

George Reeves, who played the super-hero from 1952 to 1957, is thought to have worn the outfit in the 1955 to 1957 seasons of the show.
10. What was unusual about the Bob Hope obituary published in the New York Times in 2003?

Answer: the author pre-deceased Hope

The obit was penned several years ago by veteran critic Vincent Canby. He died in October 2000, at the age of 76.
