Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In England in 1381, angered by a poll tax of 12 pence on every adult, no matter how poor or wealthy, Wat lead a peasants' revolt. What Wat?

Answer: Tyler

Wat Tyler actually got to meet King Richard at Smithfield, to discuss the peasant's grievances, but the meeting soon descended into chaos and Tyler attacked one of the king's party and then attempted to stab the Lord Mayor of London, who retaliated by slashing Tyler about the head and neck with his sword, before another of the king's party joined in and stabbed him. Severely wounded, Tyler was taken to a peasant's hospital but was taken from there by the Lord Mayor and brought back to Smithfield to be publicly decapitated and have his head displayed on a pole on London Bridge.

This effectively ended the peasant's revolt.
2. The Wot was a home built aircraft, famously used in the 1970 movie "Darling Lili", starring Julie Andrews and Rock Hudson. What Wot?

Answer: Currie

The Currie Wot was available to build at home in the 1930s and was designed by Joe Currie, whose standard response, during the planning stages, to being asked what the plane was called was "Call it what you want", hence the Wot. There were two variations to the standard Wot, a more powerful 70hp version, compared to the normal 50hp and known as the Hot Wot and a float plane variant called the Wet Wot.

The Wot usually took at least six years to build and builders complained about the vagueness of the plans but praised the aircraft for its handling once in the air.
3. When Roberto Duran relinquished his world lightweight boxing titles in 1979, a Scottish Watt took the WBC title by beating Colombian Alfredo Pitalua. What Watt?

Answer: Jim

Glaswegian Watt successfully defended his title four times in his home city before losing to Nicaraguan Alexis Arguello at Wembley by unanimous decision following 15 rounds. He retired from the sport soon after and became a much respected TV commentator, filling this role for many years.
4. "Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me...no more" requested Trinidadian singer Haddaway in 1993, although this wasn't the title of the song. What What?

Answer: Is Love

"What Is Love" was a huge hit for Nestor Alexander Haddaway, reaching the number one spot in 13 countries. His follow up release, "Life" didn't fare quite as well but still got to number one in Finland, Sweden and Spain. Future releases weren't as popular and his career declined, although in 2010, rappers Eminem and Lil Wayne sampled "What Is Love" for their duet "No Love".
Both "What Is Love" and "Life" reached number two in Germany, the country he has called home since 1987.
5. In Cambodia, surrounded by a moat, we find the largest religious monument in the world. What Wat?

Answer: Angkor

Angkor Wat was built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II and was dedicated to Lord Vishnu of the Hindu faith, but by the late 12th century it had transformed into a Buddhist temple. It receives over two million visitors per year and is one of only two national monuments to appear on a national flag, the mosque on Afghanistan's flag being the other.
6. A successful movie from 2000, starred Mel Gibson as advertising executive Nick Marshall, using his temporary ability to hear the thoughts of the opposite sex. What What?

Answer: Women Want

"What Women Want" co-starred Helen Hunt as Gibson's initial office rival and during the course of the movie he used his ability, which was caused by an accident involving a feminine bath product and a hairdryer, to pursue her romantically, rekindle his relationship with his teenage daughter and avert a suicide attempt.
7. This Laotian pan pipe was originally used to communicate with the water God and ask for rain before the harvest. What Wot?

Answer: Circular

The Circular Wot is made from 11-13 pieces of bamboo of varying lengths and a practitioner rolls it just beneath one's bottom lip while blowing into it. Apart from Laos, it can also be found in some areas of Thailand where it is used as an accompanying instrument to a "pong lang" or wooden log xylophone.
8. In 2004, North Carolina Democrat and member of the Congressional Black Caucus, Watt was accused by presidential hopeful Ralph Nader of uttering an obscene racial epithet towards him. What Watt?

Answer: Mel

Nader alleged that Watt called him, among other things, "another arrogant white man", and demanded an apology from the Congressional Black Caucus and Watt personally but none was ever forthcoming. Watt served as Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus from 2005-2006 and in 2014 was appointed by President Obama as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the body which sets construction standards for houses and insures loans given for home building.
9. WoT made its European and North American debut in 2011 and is a multi-player computer game in which the object is to destroy the other team or capture their base using specialized vehicles. What WoT?

Answer: World of Tanks

"World of Tanks" is a MMOG (massively multiplayer online game) that is available on Xbox and PlayStation platforms. Players can choose their vehicle from a list of over 400 armored vehicles from a variety of countries and game play takes place on a replica real world map.

It is an enormously popular game and in 2013, Wargaming, the company that created it, put the number of registered users at 60 million worldwide.
10. Mechanical engineer Watt developed the concept of horsepower, invented the micrometer, greatly improved the Newcomen steam engine and had a unit of power named after him. What Watt?

Answer: James

The Newcomen steam engine had been used since the early 1700s for pumping water from mines and the design had changed very little when Watt was asked by his employers, the University of Glasgow, to repair their model steam engine in 1763. Watt managed to do this but realised that most of the thermal energy of the steam was being consumed in heating the engine cylinder on every cycle and so he set about trying to condense the steam in a chamber separate from the piston, allowing the temperature of the cylinder to be maintained at the same temperature as the injected steam. Before the end of the year he had a working model and further improvements meant that by the late 1700s, Watt's steam engine was a reliable source of power that could be used in blast furnaces, forges and textile mills.
