1. How many South Carolina counties border the Atlantic Ocean?

Answer: Six

The counties are from south to north: Jasper, Beaufort, Colleton, Charleston, Georgetown, and Horry. You will find a lot of the history of South Carolina in Beaufort, while you will find a lot of tourism and history in Charleston.
2. South Carolina has The University of South Carolina, but does it have a South Carolina State University as well?

Answer: Yes

The university is located in Orangeburg, and their mascot is the bulldog. Orangeburg is located in central South Carolina and is nicknamed "The Garden City". Incidentally, Donnie Shell, a safety (1974-1987) who played for my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, came out of SC State.
3. In what city would you find the landmark called The Giant Peach?

Answer: Gaffney

It is actually a water tower that was made to look like a giant peach. It can be seen directly off of Interstate 85. Over the years, natives have claimed that South Carolina should be called "Peach State" instead of Georgia since it produces more peaches!
4. What is South Carolina's state game?

Answer: The white tailed deer

South Carolina has never been known for a high deer population or large-sized deer, but it has some dedicated hunters. A popular sport in South Carolina is deep sea fishing--and rightly so, being that South Carolina is a coastal state.

Answer: The French Broad River

The French Broad River is located in western North Carolina. The Tyger River branches off into the North, Middle, and South Tyger Rivers. The Saluda River is found in the northern and western parts of South Carolina. Lastly, the Reedy is found in northwestern South Carolina.

Answer: Dillon

South of the Border started out as a truck-stop, but the owners kept adding on to it which brought tourists. It eventually turned into a full tourist attraction as well. It was featured on The Travel Channel.

Answer: Edgefield

Thurmond held the seat for forty-nine years and lived to be one-hundred years old. Before he was a U.S. Senator, he was the Governor of South Carolina.
8. Which of these is not a privately-owned, Christian college in South Carolina?

Answer: Lander University

Lander University is located in Greenwood County and their mascot is the Bearcat. Since Greenwood is a small city, Lander is one of its few attractions. Lander is a public university.
9. What year did Hurricane Hugo hit the coast of South Carolina?

Answer: 1989

Hurricane Hugo hit on September 21, 1989 in the Charleston-Mt. Pleasant area.
10. Which of these men from South Carolina served as Vice President of the United States?

Answer: John C. Calhoun

John C. Calhoun served as Vice President to John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson from 1825 to 1832. John C. Calhoun also appeared on Confederate currency during the American Civil War.
