Helsinki is home to important wordwide businesses, such as Nokia and Laponia jewellery, and is often regarded as the economical capital of Scandinavia.
Helsinki is situated on the south coast of Finland. The city was initially a small fishing town until 1812 when it was modernised under Russian rule. The German architect Carl Engel, was commissioned to redesign it. The city was heavily bombed by the Soviets during WW2, and several thousand people died.
