1. What is Cornwall most famous for mining?

Answer: Tin

Cornwall mined tin between the 1700's and the recent past, but it was at its peak during the Industrial Revolution. South Crofty was the last tin mine to close, in 1998.
2. Which of these places in Cornwall is a city?

Answer: Truro

Queen Victoria granted Truro city status in 1877. Three years later construction started on the cathedral.
3. What is the name of the mythical land which was said to once join Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly?

Answer: Lyonesse

Lyonesse was supposedly a district of Cornwall which was swamped by a huge tidal wave. Richard Carew in his 'Survey of Cornwall' in 1602, told fisherman stories which said that you can hear church bells below the water whilst sailing on a quiet day. There are also stories of fishermen dredging up ancient window frames and other 'lost land' relics.

Another legend insists that Lyoness was the home and perhaps the final resting place of King Arthur.
4. Which tourist attraction featuring a wide range of plant life enclosed in domes can be found in Cornwall?

Answer: The Eden Project

The Eden Project was established in an abandoned clay pit between Lostwithiel and St. Austell in Easter 2001. The main attractions are two huge biodomes which house plants from around the world. A third is in the process of being built as an "Education Biome".

Answer: 1801

In 1801, Richard Trevithick drove his steam-powered Locomotive through the streets of Camborne on Christmas Eve. It was the first of many inventions.

The Hurlers near Minions on Bodmin Moor is an archaeologically rich part of Cornwall. Evidence of a prehistoric people has been found side by side with the remains of more recent copper and tin mining industries.

Answer: St. Piran

St. Piran was cast into the sea, tied to a millstone by a violent Irish king. However, the millstone floated and St. Piran sailed across to Cornwall, landing on the beach at Perranporth. He established his chapel and became the Patron Saint of Cornish Tinners and thus a Patron of Cornwall.

In 1688, Bishop Trelawney was imprisoned in the Tower of London for not obeying religious policies. A Cornish mob marched across the Tamar to secure his release. He was later acquitted.

Daphne du Maurier lived for many years at Menabilly near Fowey. She wrote a string of bestsellers set in Cornwall including 'Rebecca' and 'Jamaica Inn'. The Daphne du Maurier festival is held every year in Fowey in her honour.
10. Which of these words means "house" in Cornish?

Answer: Chy

Chy means 'house', Bal means 'mine', Mor means 'sea' and Porth means 'harbour'. Many homes in Cornwall are named in Cornish, as are most place names.
