Answer: Yeovil

Yeovil is a town in Somerset which is northeast of Devon. Exeter and Plymouth are both cities in Devon and Torquay is a town, the three make up a kind of triangle.
2. What three towns make up the main part of what is known as The English Riviera?

Answer: Torquay, Paignton, Brixham

The three towns of Torbay are also collectively known as the English Riviera because of the supposed exceptionally warm climate in the summers, the sandy beaches, the blue seas and the number of yucca trees that can be see growing.
3. Plymouth Argyle has perhaps been the most successful football team in Devon over the years but what is their nickname?

Answer: The Pilgrims

Exeter City's nickname is The Grecians, Torquay's is The Gulls and Tiverton Town's is Tivvy.

The North Devon coastline includes such towns as Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and Exmoor and borders the Bristol Channel. The southern coastline includes such towns as Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and is located on the English Channel.

The rivers of Devon are Avon, Axe, Dart, Erme, Exe, Lyn, Mole, Otter, Plym Tamar (which is the border between Devon and Cornwall), Tavy, Taw, Teign, Torridge, Yealm and Yeo.
6. What is the city of Exeter's motto?

Answer: Semper Fidelis

The motto was suggested by Queen Elizabeth I, it is Latin and means 'always faithful'.

"A mari usque ad mare" is the Canadian motto, it is also Latin and means 'From sea to sea'.

"Auxilio divino" is the Devon motto and means 'By divine aid'.

"Sumorsaete ealle" is the motto of Somerset, it is old English and simply means, 'all the people of Somerset'.

Answer: False

In fact Devon is actually 1,661,914 acres in size. It is the third biggest county behind, Yorkshire, which is 3,882,851 acres and Lincolnshire, which is 1,693,547 acres.
8. Dartmoor is said to have been haunted by many things over the years but which of these have not been reputably sighted?

Answer: Three lambs, each standing on the other

The moor is said to have been the haunt of pixies, a headless horseman, spectral hounds, a large black dog and was even apparently visited by the devil in the great thunderstorm of 1638.
9. Where in Devon is Barnstaple situated?

Answer: North

Barnstaple is the main town in the north of Devon and claims to be the oldest borough in the UK.
10. What three colours make up the unofficial flag of Devon?

Answer: Green, White and Black

The Devon flag was created in 2003, it is dedicated to St Patroc. The Cornish aren't really to pleased with it as they say it resembles their flag.
