1. In terms of having a coastline, which is the odd one out?

Answer: Wiltshire

Kent is the county closest to mainland Europe and has a coastline on the Straits of Dover. Norfolk and Lincolnshire are the counties on either side of The Wash, an inlet of the North Sea. Wiltshire is the only one of these four counties that is land-locked.
2. Devon does not have a border with which of these counties?

Answer: Gloucestershire

Devon has boundaries with only three other counties; Cornwall to the west and Dorset and Somerset to the east.
3. From which of these counties could you not cross directly into Wales?

Answer: Staffordshire

Four counties share a border with Wales. From north to south they are: Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

The River Thames is the longest river wholly in England and flows through several counties. It is used as the boundary between counties in several places. The River Thames rises in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds before flowing through Oxfordshire. It also flows through Berkshire, probably most famously at Windsor.
9. Which of these English counties does not have a designated Motorway running through it?

Answer: Suffolk

The M2 and M20 in Kent both carry commuters and holiday-makers from London to and from the coast.
The M4 from Bristol to London runs through Wiltshire.
The M11 runs through Cambridgeshire.
10. If you wanted to board a ferry from England to mainland Europe,from which county could you not do this?

Answer: Cornwall

There is a ferry out of Penzance in Cornwall but the only scheduled destination is the Isles of Scilly.
From Harwich in Essex you can board a ferry to Esbjerg in Denmark and other destinations in northern Europe.
Portsmouth in Hampshire has regular services to Le Havre in France and Bilbao in Spain.
From both Weymouth and Poole in Dorset there are ferry services to destinations in France.
