Sutton Hoo is an archaeological site where, in 1939, a Saxon ship burial was excavated. It is the funeral monument of Raedwald, king of the east Angles, who died around 624-5. Sizewell B nuclear power station is also in Suffolk.

Lancaster gave its name to a royal house, a branch of the Plantagenets, when Edmund (d.1296), the younger son of Henry III was granted the earldom of Lancaster.
