Answer: Rio de la Plata

Established in 1724 as San Felipe y Santiago de Montevideo, the city has grown to be the largest city in Uruguay with more than 50% of the total population.

The Rio de la Plata is formed where the Uruguay and Paraná rivers join. It forms part of the border between Uruguay and Argentina.

Answer: Guarani

The thermal springs were found during an exploration for oil in the 1940s. Since then a number of resorts have sprung up. These have been developed with several different types of activities such as campgrounds, spas and water parks.

The Guarani Aquifer was named for the Guaraní people. The fresh water aquifer is found beneath Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Between the years of 1680 and 1811, Colonia del Sacramento would switch allegiance between Portugal and Spain eight times. It actually became part of Uruguay in 1828. The historical quarter still has the City Gate and wooden drawbridge, and cobblestone streets built by the Portuguese.

This was the home and workshop of artist Carlos Páez Vilaró until his death in 2014. After purchasing the land, he would spend 36 years building room after room. Today the site is a hotel and museum.

Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal created the sculpture during the first annual International Meeting of Modern Sculpture in the Open Air (1982) (he has since recreated the sculpture in several other cities around the world). The site of the sculpture is between two beaches, Playa Brava with rough surf and Playa Mansa with calmer waters.

Punta del Este, "the Pearl of Uruguay", is a resort town and visitors swarm to the site to enjoy the sun and surf.

Though hunting and fishing were prevelant on the islands, it was prohibited in 1991. The islands are now a part of "Coastal Islands National Park".

There is a lighthouse on Isla de Lobos that was built in 1906, replacing the original which had been built in 1858. As of 2001 the lighthouse is fully automated and using solar energy.

The stadium was built for the celebration of the centennial of Uruguay's first constitution. The stadium hosted the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, and today can be rented by any football (soccer) club. It has also been the venue for many concerts.
