1. What country will I be visiting when I hike the length of the Tiger Leaping Gorge situated on the Jinsha River?

Answer: China

There are two trails for trekkers to take, each with different views. The high road is used by the native Naxi folk, but there are guesthouses for trekkers.

Where the roads meet, trekkers from both trails can get close to the Tiger Leaping Stone, where the tiger is said to have leaped.
2. The next hike will be through the Fish River Canyon. We'll be spending about a week trekking and then lounging at the end point, Ai Ais. Which of these countries will we be visiting?

Answer: Namibia

This trek requires a permit prior to arrival, and a certificate of health by a doctor. Due to weather and intermittent flooding, the trail is only open from May 1 to September 15.

As usual, trekkers should plan their trip carefully, though there are campgrounds at one end, and a resort town at the other, the actual trek can be quite difficult depending on the trails selected.

The Antelope Canyon was created by flood waters eroding the sandstone. The passages are fantastically colored by the sandstone, but it becomes even more picturesque when sunlight shines through the top of the canyon.

This park provides camping as well as more up-scale hotels and restaurants. The three trails can each be completed within a day and offer spectacular views of the countryside.

The canyon has a well-maintained paved road for hiking, and is popular with tourists. The walk up the gorge can generally be accomplished without a guide.

This area is also popular with rock climbers and many climb routes are bolted into the canyon.

This national park was abolished in 1945, and not re-opened until 1986. There are hiking trails, but bicycles travel the road with the cars.

The gorge was carved into the marble of the island by the Liwu River.

Answer: Mexico

The Copper Canyon is actually six canyons formed by six rivers. The name of the canyon came from the copper green color of the canyon walls.

There are many options to tour the Copper Canyon, including hiking, biking, driving or horseback riding.

The Samariá Gorge is enclosed in the Samariá National Park. The hike is about 16km. The parks does not allow anyone to stay overnight, to light fires, or to swim in the gorge. There are daily buses to and from the gorge.

Answer: France

The Gorges du Verdon is a popular tourist spot with the turquoise-colored Verdon River. Tourists can hike, canoe, kayak, or even drive around the rim of the canyon.

This is also a favorite spot for rock climbers and with many routes.

Answer: Peru

Many tourist attractions can be found in Colca Canyon, including archeological sites with drawing estimated to be 6,000 years old.

One popular tourist stop is "Cruz del Condor" where Andean Condors can often be viewed as they fly past.
