Greece's Independence Day was first celebrated on March 25th, 1821. This date marked the start of their war of independence against the Ottoman Empire.

Ouzo is a liquor with a strong smell. It's anise flavored and it can also be used in desserts.

Answer: 1952

NATO stands for the 'North Atlantic Treaty Organization'. It was created in 1949.

Answer: blue and white

The blue color symbolizes water, since Greece has sparkling blue water and is seafarers' country. White symbolizes freedom which is important to the Greeks since they won their independence from Turkey. The cross in the corner symbolizes the Christian faith and Greek orthodoxy.

There are nine stripes, and each symbolizes a syllable in a Greek motto: 'E-LEY-THE-RI-A-I-THA-NA-TOS' which means 'Freedom or Death'.

'Vasilopita' is a type of Greek cake that is round and is baked to be eaten on New Year's Day. A coin is also baked into the cake and whoever gets the slice with the coin in it will have a lucky year.
10. In Greek mythology, which one of the following was NOT one of Hercules's twelve labors?

Answer: to capture the Golden Fleece

Jason, leader of the Argonauts, was the person who captured the Golden Fleece. In total, Hercules had to accomplish twelve impossible tasks, commissioned to him by king Eurystheus of Tiryns. He did do them all, which amazed everyone. The Golden Apples of the Hesperides were guarded by a Ladon, a dragon with one hundred heads.

The Augean Stables had to be cleaned in one day and had not been cleaned in thirty years. Hercules made two rivers bend so that the water could sweep all the filth out of the stables.

Other tasks done by Hercules included capturing Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of the Underworld as well as the Cretan bull, which blew fire.
