Bratislava was built on the banks of River Danube (Dunaj). Vienna, Budapest and Belgrade are three other capital cities built on the banks of the Danube. Vah and Hron are tributaries of Danube in Slovakia. Vltava (also called Moldau) is in Czech Republic.

Slivovica is distilled from plums; borovicka from juniper berries; jablkovica from apples; hruskovica from pears. The spirit known in English as 'brandy' is vinovice. This is distilled from grape wine.

The highest point in High Tatra is Gerlachovsky Stit, which used to be called Stalin Peak. It rises to 8,711 feet.

Answer: Milan Rastislav Stefanik

M.R. Stefanik International Airport was named after Milan Rastislav Stefanik, a decorated war hero and one of the founders of Czechoslovakia at the end of World War One. He died tragically in a plane crash in 1919. His remains are buried in a memorial barrow, built mainly of stone on a hill in western Slovakia. There is also a Stefanik Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio.

Answer: White, blue and red

The flag is made up of three horizontal stripes: white at the top, blue in the middle and red at the bottom. There is a red, white and blue shield left of centre, which comprises a white Lorraine cross standing on three blue mountains. These symbolize three saints: Constantine, Method and Benedict.

Kosice (called Kassa in Hungary) is in the east of Slovakia, 12 miles (20 Km) from the border with Hungary. Dobre rano is good morning; dobry den is good day (formal); dobry vecer is good evening; and dobru noc is good night. The word "afternoon" is "popoludnie", but there isn't a "good afternoon" in Slovak. "Dobry den" would be used as a greeting for this time of the day.

The starter is usually kapustnica (cabbage soup) followed by kapor (carp), a freshwater fish, with zemiakovy salat (potato salad). The main Christmas meal and celebration is on 24th December.
