Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sussex has many venues for horse-racing. Which of the following racecourses is not located in Sussex?

Answer: Lingfield

Lingfield is in Surrey, although very close to the Sussex border. Not to be confused with the Sussex village of Lindfield which doesn't have a racetrack.
2. In Crawley, the largest inland town in Sussex, one of the retail parks is called County Oak. What did the 'County Oak' originally mark?

Answer: Border between Sussex & Surrey

The tree is no more and the border is now several miles further north, the other side of Gatwick Airport. The North Downs Way runs through Surrey and County Assizes were held in the older county towns of East and West Sussex. Very little has been recorded of our kings beyond their names and sometimes not even that detail survives.
3. There is a river running through the middle of Brighton, although it is now in a sewer. Its route takes it through what is now the Old Steine. What is the river's name?

Answer: Wellsbourne

"However, by 1793 the waters of the river were running dry and the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Marlborough paid for them to be directed into a brick sewer."
