Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Kangas begin with a trip down Southeast Asia, in my home of Singapore. Down south of the main island itself is a smaller island resort that can be reached via highway, walkway or monorail. Its name translated means 'Peace and Tranquility' in Malay and houses many of Singapore's premiere tourist attractions. Where on Earth have you set foot on?

Answer: Sentosa

After a grim history of death and war and being called 'Pulau Belakang Mati' or 'Island of Death from Behind', the government changed its name to Sentosa, and it was opened in 1972. The island is best known for its beautiful sandy beaches along the south of the island. It also houses many popular hotels and attractions, most notably Resorts World Sentosa, Universal Studios Singapore, Madame Tussauds Singapore and the Marine Life Park, the largest oceanarium in the world.

Palau Ubin is a smaller island known for fishing and cycling trails. Palau Tekong is an army training camp for new recruits when they begin National Service, and Temasek is the old name of Singapore itself. Submitted by Abby_91.
2. In Scotland's capital city stands a dormant volcano which is about 250 metres high and is one the city's most dominant sights. What is name of this wonderful site?

Answer: Arthur's Seat

This dormant volcano is just off the Royal Mile and is situated in Royal Holyrood Park. The park is attached to Holyrood Palace and Arthur's Seat is the highest peak of the group of hills in the park. There is a hill fort at the top of the peak and the panoramic views over the city from the top are amazing.

It has been said that there is some connection to King Arthur but there is no solid proof of this. It is also mentioned in many books and poems by authors such as Ian Rankin, Robert Louis Stephenson and Mary Shelley to name but three.

It is a must see site to visit if you are ever in what in my opinion is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Submitted by scotsbluebell.
3. The highest tides in the world are found in the Bay of Fundy in Canada. These tides reach up to 50ft (equal to a four storey building) twice every day. What is not as commonly known is the name of the rocks that are covered by these tides. What is the name of these formations?

Answer: Hopewell Rocks

The Hopewell Rocks are also known as the Flowerpot Rocks. When the tide is out you can walk on the ocean floor and around these formations. However, when the tide is in you can appreciate how just how high the tides are against the once visible rocks. Submitted by KittyKatey
4. In which Nordic country is the town of Sandviken?

Answer: Sweden

Sandviken is about 200 kilometres from Stockholm. Sandviken's famous son is rock musician Tomas Ledin. Submitted by MadameGuvnor.
5. In Western Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, there is a river named after an Aboriginal mythological creature. What is the river?

Answer: Bunyip River

The Bunyip or Yowie is a mythical creature that lurks in the swamplands of Australia. Although Yowie is another name for the same creature, there is no river of that name. This area of Gippsland was swampland and after the area was drained, the Bunyip River became its major river with the rest of the area consisting of drains to keep the swamps manageable.

This area is very fertile and has a large market garden industry specialising in snow peas, asparagus and potatoes. Submitted by ClaudiaCat.
6. Taking its name from a nearby cathedral city, on which plain is Stonehenge located?

Answer: Salisbury

Taking its name from the cathedral city of Salisbury, Salisbury Plain covers 300 sq. miles of Wiltshire and includes part of neighbouring Hampshire. Apart from small areas of woodland, much of the plain is grassland that is situated on a plateau.

Half of Salisbury Plain is given over to agriculture, the remaining half used by the Ministry of Defence to train the British Army. As such, this means much of the area utilised for training has restricted access to the general public. Despite this, Salisbury Plain contains two national nature reserves which are home for many rare plant and wildlife species.

In addition, the area around Stonehenge is part of a large prehistoric complex which also includes Woodhenge and Durrington Walls. Submitted by mcsurfie.
7. I'm Shedrgn13. I live in the beautiful state of Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. There are several mountain ranges in the area. What is the name of the mountain range with a colorful name?

Answer: Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountain Range has a winding road that is full of color and wildlife, especially in the fall. Part of the Appalachian Trail crosses and meanders through the Range. If ever in Virginia in the fall, you should visit the Blue Ridge Mountains and be stunned by the vibrant colors and gorgeous wineries in the area. Submitted by Shedrgn13.
8. When was the site for Adelaide, South Australia, chosen?

Answer: 1836

The site was chosen by Colonel William Light beside the River Torrens. The site was chosen in 1836 but was not finalised until 1837. Colonel Light died in 1839 and is buried in Light Square, the only person buried within the "square mile" of Adelaide city. Submitted by jb1405.
9. In the Jamison Valley in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, there is a rock formation that local Aboriginals thought were creatures turned to stone. What is it named?

Answer: The Three Sisters

The Three Sisters is a rock formation that has been created by erosion which looks like three standing figures. The local Aboriginals thought they were three sisters, Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo, who had been turned to stone. Worth a look as it is very unique. Submitted by DaveDaw.
10. Many people come to the county where I live to holiday on the water or to bring their caravans because it is so flat. Which English county do I live in?

Answer: Norfolk

Norfolk is part of East Anglia and is known for the Broads and the Fens. It is a haven for caravans so the summer is spent in slow traffic, the winters too as all the water can make for awful driving conditions. Submitted by lonely-lady.
