Answer: Paeleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic

Paleolithic came first - between 25 millionBC and 8000BC with Mesolithic next between 8000 BC and 3500 BC and finaly Neolithic between 3500 and 200BC.
2. In Celtic Ireland what was the most powerful King called?

Answer: Ard Ri

The Ard ri meanin high king was the most powerful king in Celtic Ireland. However, he did not rule over all of Ireland as between 80 and 150 ri's ruled their own districts, called tuaths.
3. Who were said to have founded Rome?

Answer: Romulus and Remus

Legend has it that Romulus and Remus, two orphan twins who were raised by a wolf founded Rome, but in a fight over who naming the city Romulus killed his brother and so named the city after himself.
4. When did the Normans start to invade Ireland?

Answer: 1169

The Normans, invited over by Dermott MacMurrough, invaded Ireland in 1169 with them arriving in small groups but with horses armour archers and military planning were able to defeat the greater Irish armies. It is said that 80 Normans defeated a force of 3,000 Irish soldiers at Baginbun, Co. Wexford.
5. Who invented printing by moveable type?

Answer: Johann Gutenberg

Gutenberg came from the German city of Mainz, but many of his early works were carried out in Strasbourg with his partner Andreas Dritzchen. When Dritzchen died Guttenberg moved back to Mainz where he made hundreds of tiny metal blocks each with a letter sticking out on them.

These blocks were known as type and were kept in a type case. Gutenberg made a frame and when the frame was filled with words side panels were screwed into place to keep everything firmly in position.

Answer: Rebirth

The Renaissance was a period of rebirth in interest in the late Middle Ages on the ancient Greek and Roman civilisations. This period of change began in Italy.

Answer: Frederick Elector of Saxony

Frederick Elector of Saxony was in fact one of Luthers own supporters and kidnapped him for his own safety. He kept Luther sheltered in the Wartburg castle for almost a year disguised as a knight called Junker George.
8. What profession did George Washington have in his early years?

Answer: surveyor

In his early years Washington was a surveyor, before at the age of twenty he inherited his family's 8,000 acre estate at Mount Vernon where he introduced new farming methods and stated that farming 'Is honourable, it is amusing and, with superior judgement it is profitable.' When the colonies joined the French and Indian war he also distinguished himself a soldier however he was never a doctor.
9. Who introduced the plantation scheme into Ireland during the Ulster Plantation?

Answer: King James I of England

With Queen Elizabeth dying just before the Treaty of Melifont having no children she was suceeded by her cousin King James VI of Scotland who then also became King James I of England. Having introduced plantation schemes in areas of rebellious Scottish clans previously, he was persuaded by others that the best way to ensure Ulsters loyalty to the Crown was through plantation.

Answer: The Ancien Regime

The Ancien Regime preserved privilege (especially aristocratic and ecclesiastical) at the expense of merit and was very unpopular with the middle classes.
