Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which animal was the goddess "Bastet" originally associated with?

Answer: Lioness

Bastet (earlier known as Bast), or Ailuros in the ancient Greek religion, was worshipped as the goddess of love, fertility, sex, joy, mystery, magic, music, the sun, and most notably, cats, throughout most of Ancient Egyptian history. At first, she was a lioness god, but as time went on, the cat became her totem animal.

Sekhment, another Egyptian goddess, was considered her alter ego, as she depicted the fighter aspect of Bastet.
2. Why did the Ancient Egyptians leave mummies' hearts in place, though all the other organs were preserved in jars?

Answer: Because they believed it was the center of a person's being

Egyptians believed the heart was the center of a person's body; they also believed that their hearts would be weighed against the feather of the truth, which was a representative of Maat, the goddess of orderliness. The judgement would occur in the presence of Osiris; if the heart was heavy, it would be eaten by a monster named Ammit.

Eventually, the Roman emperor offered to help him seize the Persian throne, and he finally agreed to leave Egypt.
