1. In January 1975, a benefit concert was held at the Sydney Opera House and raised $75,000 for victims of the Cyclone Tracy disaster. Sadly, tragedy struck elsewhere in the country. The Bulk carrier 'Lake Illawarra' drifted off course while travelling down the Derwent River in Hobart, crashing into which bridge?

Answer: Tasman Bridge

The Lake Illawarra crashed into the Tasman Bridge in Hobart hitting a pylon, causing an entire span of the bridge to collapse into the river and subsequently sinking the ship. Seven of the crew were killed, along with five motorists who drowned in cars when they plunged off the bridge.

Answer: Colour television

Colour television made its debut in March 1975. The ABC officially launched its colour TV broadcasting with a five minute special, "Aunty Jack Introduces Colour", which ran from 11:58am to 12:03pm on the 1st of March. One of the first commercial TV shows to be broadcast in full was "Sound Unlimited".

On 8th December 1975, AC/DC released "It's A Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock'n'Roll)". To promote it, TV's Countdown films the band playing the song live on the back of a flatbed truck as they are driven through Melbourne. It was to be their second national hit, peaking at #5 in January 1976.

Answer: January - Pilot

"January" by Pilot was the number song in Australia for 1974. It spent eight weeks there, before being knocked off its perch by Freddie Fender, right before his next teardrop fell!
