Answer: Sunday Night at the London Palladium

"Sunday Night at the London Palladium" on 12th January 1964 was one of the most watched British television programs, and an appearance there launched many careers. The expression "Beatlemania" first appeared after this show.

Their first-ever TV appearance was on Granada television on 17th October 1962 in the "People and Places" programme. Thee is no footage of this appearance as it wasn't recorded.

Answer: Marquee Club

Refurbished in 1964, the Marquee was the London showplace for many of the new British artists of the 1960s, including The Who, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Small Faces, Manfred Mann, etc, etc.

Answer: London School of Economics

Having achieved considerable academic success at school, Mick was admitted to the London School of Economics, to study business. Although he did not finish his degree, it gave him a strong business basis for his future financial management of the Rolling Stones.

Started by Barbara Hulanicki in her flat, she produced simple, well cut mini clothes. The first small Kensington store opened in 1964, and then moved to the larger store in Kensington Church Street in 1967. This store offered all sorts of accessories and makeup for the dedicated follower of fashion.
5. Who was the British designer who first marketed the mini skirt, eventually becoming the leading fashion force outside of Paris?

Answer: Mary Quant

Mary Quant opened her first store in London in 1961, "Bazaar". In 1965 she set up the Ginger Group and began mass production and international sales, and the rest is history.

One of the most successful items sold at "Bazaar" were the white plastic boots, that went along with the Mini skirts. For many, it became difficult to tell who was fashionable, and who was a hooker. WE loved it.
6. When and where was the World Premiere of "A Hard Day's Night"?

Answer: London Pavilion on July 6, 1964

All the Beatles attended the premiere as well as Royalty and London 'Trendies' (and me). Nearby Piccadilly Circus was closed to traffic as thousands of fans hoped for a glimpse of the group.

Answer: 1961

This car that was one of the icons of 'Swinging London'. The even speedier Mini Cooper 'S', making its appearance in 1963. The first (basic) Minis were produced in 1959.

They took over 94, Baker Street in 1967. The upstairs was used for Apple offices. The building was hard to miss, with a mural blazoned across one side of the four-storey building.

Originally from the East End of London, Vidal Sassoon began to produce his version of the 'bob cut', cut on a horizontal plane. It was an essential part of the "60s look". Sassoon went international with his salons and products, to become a household name.

Originally from Bradford, Hockney attended the Royal Academy of Art in London. His artistic style flourished in this freer atmosphere. Also designing costumes and scenery for a Royal Court Theatre production. His major retrospective show was held at the Tate Gallery in 1970.

John Profumo, Secretary of State for War in the Macmillan Government, lied in the House of Commons about his involvement in a major sex scandal. He was having an affair with call-girl Cristine Keeler, who was simultanously having an affair with a diplomat from the Russian Embassy in London. It was said that Profumo had placed British defense secrets in potential jeopardy.

Answer: Winston Churchill

Churchill's state funeral was held on January 30th, 1965. The service at St. Paul's Cathedral was attended by dignitaries from all over the world, and viewed on television by many millions more. It marked the end of an era.
