1. The Arab-Israeli War of 1967 is often called the "Six Days' War". When was it fought?

Answer: 5-10 June 1967

Earlier in 1967 there had been conflict on the Golan Heights, near the border between Israel and Syria. The immediate "trigger" for the war is widely agreed to have been Egypt's blockade of the Gulf of Aqaba (starting on 22 May 1967), which had the effect of cutting off access to and from the southern Israeli port of Eilat.

Answer: Moshe Dayan

Moshe Dayan (1915-1981) was an outstanding Minister of Defence. He was appointed in 1967 and held his post until 1974. He was, however, blamed for Israel's lack of preparedness at the outbreak of the 1973 October War.
