Answer: Inner German Border

The Inner German border was more commonly known as the Iron Curtain. The border was a hideous collection of obstacles stretched between East and West Germany. Minefields, guard dogs and watchtowers were amongst a number of measures used by the East Germans to keep their own people from escaping to the West.

It was 870 miles in length and guarded by special East German border troops. The West German side of the border was patrolled by NATO forces and the West German Border Police or Bundesgrenzschutz.
