American negotiators for the treaty were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, and Henry Laurens. Richard Oswald and Henry Strachey were the chief British negotiators. (The treaty had been signed the previous year).
The treaty of Paris was drafted in 1782, signed in 1783 and went into effect on 12 May 1784.
