Minenwerfer were short range mortars used by the Germans in order to clear targets that heavy artillery could not hit accurately.

The Germans were extremly impressed by the 47 round air cooled Lewis Gun. They were so impressed that they made an effort to retrieve these weapons on the battlefield and even published a manual on its use and care.

Officially, Colonial soldiers and Legionaires were issued the M1907-15 Berthier Rifle. This rule became very flexible very fast as casulaties mounted and soldiers had to take what was available.

Answer: a flamethrower

A 'kleinflammenwerfer' was the first version of the portable flamethrower. It was first used by the German Storm Pioneers at Verdun.

The mad minute was a rifle drill in which 20-30 aimed shots could be fired with the Lee-Enfield Rifle. The results of this drill could be best seen at Mons in which the Old Contemptibles routed a German advance.
