The Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock in December of 1620. They were Puritans who had broken away from the Church of England and had suffered religious oppression as a result.
2. In which year did the U.S. Revolutionary War begin?

Answer: 1775

War began on April 19, 1775 in Concord, Mass.
3. The year the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Answer: 1776

You ALL should have gotten this one correct! On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was adopted, but it wasn't until August 2 of the same year that delegates began signing it.
4. The year Washington became the first president of the USA.

Answer: 1789

He served from 1789 to 1797, completing two terms.
5. 19th century - This was the FINAL year that the American Indians were forced to trek from their territory to Oklahoma in western USA on the "Trail of Tears".

Due to greed for more land, the people wanted the Indians off of their own land. "The "Trail of Tears" refers to the removal of several tribes from the south to lands in the west (OK). The Indians were relocated under the authority of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, which was signed by Andrew Jackson.

The first tribe, the Choctaw were relocated in 1831. The last were the Cherokee in 1838.

A little bit of gold was found out in California and it caused a stampede to the west! Though the California Gold Rush is associated with 1849, it began in 1848.

A great man. He united the country, freed the slaves, and made one of the greatest speeches ever given.

On the evening of October 8, 1871, the Chicago fire started in the barn of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick and Catherine O'Leary. The blaze spared their home, ironically, but burned the rest of the town causing 100,000 people to be homeless and 300 people to lose their lives.
