1. Germany developed a plan to invade Poland in 1939. What was the name of that plan?

Answer: Plan White

The key objective of Plan White was to conquer Poland by knocking out the capital, Warsaw. The western and central parts of Poland were attacked from Pomerania, Danzig, East Prussia, Silesia and Slovakia. Eastern Poland was occupied by the Soviet Union from 17 September 1939 onwards.
2. Blitzkrieg was Germany's key offensive tactic. What ended a typical blitzkrieg attack (assuming that everything went according to plan)?

Answer: Massive infantry offensive

Blitzkrieg means "lightning war." First, aircraft would bomb the target. Second, German tanks and artillery would barge through the defensive stronghold. Finally, infantry would advance through the weakened spot.

(The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 should *never* be confused with the earlier Warsaw Ghetto Uprising).

The Spitfire is closely associated with the Battle of Britain. There were many variants. Reginald Mitchell (1895-1937) was the chief designer at the Supermarine Aviation Works. He left school at the age of 16 and initially became an apprentice at a locomotive works near his home in Stoke-on-Trent. He was a very successful "self-made" man.

Answer: Order his execution

Goering was immediately fired when he suggested that Germany surrender. Goering was not even in Berlin at the end of the war; he was in Berchtesgaden. He even made an announcement to the effect that as Hitler was trapped in Berlin, he (Goering) was taking over as Fuehrer. Hitler ordered his execution but the order was not carried out.

Answer: Soviet Union

The Soviet Army, after fierce and prolonged street fighting, closed in on Hitler's Reichs Chancellery (and the famous "bunker") in the heart of Berlin, thus putting a definitive end to WWII in Europe.
